Tom - I guess I wasn’t thinking, Grandmother. I have broken the tree for no reason.
Sam - But there are so many trees in the forest, Grandmother, why does it hurt that Tom broke just one?
Grandmother - Children, if there are many of you and I hurt just one of you, does it matter? Do you think it matters for Katie if I choose to hurt her rather than Judy? And if I hurt Katie, will I not also be harming the rest of you because you will now have doubt about how I might behave towards you. If I can hurt Katie, might I not one day hurt any of you?
Come children, this is a nice place to sit - I have a story to tell you.
THE FAIRYTALE
Once upon a time there was a world full of people who loved to be slaves. They so loved being slaves that, if anyone suggested that there might be a way not to be a slave, the slaves raised their eyebrows, gave an embarrassed laugh and turned away as quickly as they could.
The slaves lived in a beautiful world full of natural wonders; of waterfalls, lakes and powerful seas, of mountains, valleys and majestic forests and of everything they needed to live lives of joy, freedom and abundance.
Their beautiful world was what sustained them, giving them air to breathe, water to drink and food to eat. Without their beautiful world, the slaves could not survive but they had been slaves for so long that they no longer noticed that their enslavement was slowly killing the world that gave them life.
They had forgotten that they were part of their beautiful world and their beautiful world was part of them. They had forgotten who they really were.
The slaves spent most of their time giving their energy to an artificial world, a fairytale that had been superimposed over the natural, life giving one. As the fairytale had no life force energy of its own, it needed the constant input of the slaves to appear to function.
Like all slave masters, the fairytale was not kind. The slaves had to spend hours away from their families and homes “working”, just in order to have a place to live and food on the table.
There were rules and regulations that the slaves were expected to conform to and those that transgressed were severely punished.
Of course, all the slaves had to do to be free was to get together and remove their energy from the fairytale because, without them, it could only collapse. But the fairytale had systems in place to teach the slaves that they were all individuals, isolated and alone, and that a life of slavery was the only one possible.
They learnt that only slaves belonging to their particular slave group could be trusted, that their slave group was superior to any other slave group and, in some cases, that they must be prepared to fight other slaves and even die for their slave group. The fear and trauma generated by the images of the fairytale kept them firmly in their places.
Thus it was impossible for the slaves to unite despite the fact that, deep down, every slave was aware that their addiction to slavery was killing the world that gave them life.
So why did the slaves keep working for the fairytale and giving up their freedom if they knew the consequences? It was partly because the hole seemed too deep and frightening to climb out of, partly because they had been taught to expect someone else to solve their problems for them and partly because they were too tired from working so hard for the fairytale to think about it. But the main reasons the slaves kept their heads down and tails up was that they were unwilling to give up the temptations of the fairytale.
Concoctions of chemicals disguised as food, with tantalising tastes that induced cravings, despite the damage done to the body. Drinks full of poison that sent you out of your mind for a while so you could forget your worries. Shops full of things to possess, bigger, better places to live, smarter, more powerful means of transport, more exotic and exclusive places to travel to, countless coverings for the body, and an endless array of ways and means to fill the time not spent in the service of the slave master.
Upon all these things the slaves placed more value than their freedom. As long as they could have their fairytale addictions, they were willing to be slaves.
A few slaves tried to turn the tide. They tried to break free of their shackles but it was very hard. Often they were punished, ridiculed and starved back into submission, even though all they asked was to be able to take on the responsibility of caring for themselves, others and the natural world.
As time went on, the fairytale became an increasingly harsh master, demanding more and more energy from its slaves until even previously happy slaves began to feel that all was not right.
As the demands grew, so did the restrictions until the few avenues available for the slaves to take back their freedom dwindled away and the punishments for slaves attempting to do so became even more severe.
The fairytale spread over more and more of the natural world, raping, pillaging and plundering until the rivers were choked, the mountains gouged beyond recognition and the forests reduced to matchsticks teetering in dusty, barren soil.
As the air became too thick to breathe, the water too contaminated to drink and the food lost all its life forces, the slaves began dying too quickly and in numbers too large not to notice.
Too late, the slaves realised that the fairytale had nothing to offer them and that they had all but destroyed their only means of existence. Chaos all around them, the remaining slaves realised they had to change their ways before it was too late.
But where to start?
There were a few slaves who had seen the signs and hidden themselves away. They had stored clean water, kept some seeds and found the few trees left that could provide them with clean air.
As the relentless destruction trickled to a halt and Earth breathed a sigh of relief, these slaves came out of their hiding places and gathered together with the others, ready and willing to take on the job of repairing the damage done.
And perhaps, even as they looked around at the desolate remains of their once beautiful land, they smiled because they had remembered who they really were and at last they were free.
Katie – And did they do it, Grandmother? Did they save Earth?
Grandmother – Have a look around, children. Did we do it?
Judy – We? We, Grandmother? Were you one of those slaves?
Grandmother – I was.
Tom – And Grandfather?
Grandmother – Yes he was, children. Grandfather, Great Uncle Collin and Great Aunt Danielle and many of the other older men and women you know.
Sam – But how did you do it, Grandmother? How did you make Earth better? If it was all broken and dirty, how did you fix it?
Grandmother – The first thing we had to do was to look at everything we had been doing and see how we had hurt Earth. And then we had to work out how to live in ways that didn’t hurt Earth.
We realised that the only way to help Earth become the beautiful paradise it had once been was to make sure that everything we did helped Earth and didn’t hurt Earth.
Sometimes we do break branches or chop down a tree but we never do it if we don’t have a good reason. That’s why I asked Tom why he had broken the branch.
He was not thinking or feeling the tree when he broke the branch and so he was able to do harm to the tree. And you are right Sam – just one little branch doesn’t make much difference in a beautiful forest like this one, but imagine if everybody began breaking branches, thinking that just one branch wouldn’t make any difference. In time, the forest would be full of broken trees.
This is how we start to do harm children, and one seemingly small act of harm leads to complete destruction if it is repeated enough times. Now I have told you the story of how we nearly destroyed Earth before you were born, I hope that you will always be mindful of your actions so that you will never do harm to this beautiful Earth we are so lucky to live on.
Children – We will, Grandmother. Of course, Grandmother.
The End
There was once an enormous house with hundreds of rooms. In these rooms lived many, many people, sleeping, waking up, eating, drinking and going about their daily business.
The house was not a very safe house; things were always going wrong and many unfortunate accidents were had by the people of the rooms.
For the most part, the people accepted this as part of life in the house. They thought that unfortunate accidents were to be expected because nothing is perfect and the builders of the house had surely done the best they could when building it.
Occasionally a few people got upset, especially when they were the ones affected by the unfortunate accidents, and complained to the builders who usually sent a representative round to fix the odd hole in the wall, patch up a few windows, assure the people that all was well and generally smooth things over.
The complainers were not always satisfied but, with no other recourse at hand and surrounded by others telling them that everything was ok and not to worry, they soon found it too difficult to swim against the tide and turned back to their distractions.
And distractions there were aplenty for the thoughtful builders had not only built a place for people to live, they had built a place where the people could have FUN! There was sport, entertainment, recreational activities, an endless array of courses to learn about an endless array of subjects, gardens for those who liked to grow flowers, any number of different spiritual centres and, on the more illicit side, there was easy sex, alcohol, drugs and gambling. There was something for everyone.
Of course a few of the diehard complainers said that the builders only provided the distractions so that people would spend all their time on them rather than focusing on all the accidents their shoddy building work was causing but they were written off as trouble makers or slapped on the back and told to come to a distraction centre and forget about it.
If they persisted in making a noise, House Security would come and have a word with them and, if necessary, look after them in a secure place for a little while so that they did not interfere with the enjoyment of the rest of the inhabitants of the house.
For the most part, the people of the house were too caught up debating and even fighting over whose distraction was the best and which distraction everybody ought to follow to spend time thinking about the builders and their failure to provide a safe house.
Given the problems with the house, most of the inhabitants were happy to leave it to the builders and had little time for anyone who suggested that there might be ways to improve the house or even do away with it altogether.
As well as distractions, the builders of the house provided learning centres for children where, from an early age, they were instructed on and taught to memorise how the house worked, the rules of the house, the infrastructure of the house and how to do their part in maintaining the house.
It was also explained to them that there wasn’t really any other way to live apart from in the house and that, unfortunate though the accidents were, there wasn’t really anything the inhabitants of the house could do and that the builders were doing their best to set things right and would be able to do so if they had the support of the inhabitants of the house.
As they grew up, the children of the house could either continue learning about the hows and whys of the house or they could start “working” for the house. This was another way the inhabitants of the house filled their time.
Most of them spent many of their waking hours working for the builders of the house in all areas of the house. Some added new rooms for new people, others worked maintaining the infrastructure of the house while still more worked in the area of distractions, running the sport, entertainment, etc. Others worked for the builders making “improvements” to the house which were always widely broadcast as “progress” but which somehow never seemed to solve the problems of the house.
There were those who learnt how to instruct children in the learning centres, those who joined House Security and also those who learned how to provide medication for those suffering from the ill effects of their distractions and life in the house in general.
These medications did not cure the sufferers but allowed them to get back to work and to their distractions as quickly as possible. Indeed, they did not expect to be cured because most people around them were not completely healthy so they accepted ill health as the norm. Of course, the builders of the house tried to help them with all sorts of initiatives but somehow disease and ill health persisted.
“Work” was considered very important because the type of work a man or woman did determined how they lived within the house. Those whose work was deemed very important were given bigger, smarter rooms and access to more supplies than others whose work was not thought to be so important, even though there was often little difference in time spent working.
Not surprisingly, those who received less for their effort felt resentful towards those who received more which lead to the erection of barriers between different parts of the house.
Barriers were also erected between those who felt so strongly about their chosen distraction that they could not live near supporters of a different distraction without coming to blows.
A few inhabitants tried to bring everyone together to focus on how to deal with the problems of the house but habits were entrenched and common ground not to be found.
So the unfortunate accidents and problems with the infrastructure of the house continued.
There were problems with food and water supplies, overcrowding, roomlessness due to people not working hard enough to keep their rooms and a House Security that was over stretched dealing with inhabitants who refused to obey the rules of the house.
Suffering was growing to such an extent that even the usually most contented house inhabitants began to murmur about improvements being needed. Too many people were hurting, too many people were sick and too many people were struggling just to have food and a ceiling over their heads. Something had to be done.
Finally the builders of the house called a meeting. They had a solution. They had built a new house, an improved house for everyone to live in.
The new house had a much stronger and more powerful House Security whose job would be much easier because all the inhabitants of the new house would have a member marker in them so that they could be instantly identified.
This would make it less complicated for them to get supplies of food, water and whatever else they needed and easier for them to travel about.
Even better, no one would be allowed to live in the new house unless they received injections that would keep them safe from the many diseases of the old house and ensure that they were happy and willing to accept the rules of the new house.
The builders would be able to keep a much closer eye on everything to ensure that life ran smoothly and that any unfortunate accidents were kept to a minimum.
The builders ensured the people that they had looked at all the alternatives and were more than satisfied that a new house was the best solution available for everyone, especially as the new house was equipped with even more distraction centres than the old one.
There would be even more fun for all.
Most of the people were happy; they would be able to move to the new, improved house and get on with their lives of working for the house and enjoying the distractions of the house.
A few were not happy and voiced their discontent.
They did not see how the new house was an improvement to the old house, especially as it seemed to just be an updated version of the same.
They questioned how the problems of the old house would not begin to appear in the new house. They appealed to the builders to reconsider and even said they would like to build their own houses, without help from the builders.
The builders smiled and gently suggested that they had done the research and it was not possible for the people to take on such responsibility.
Without House Security in place, anything might happen, without the new injections, who knew what diseases might run rampant and without the learning centres, how would the children understand the importance of the house?
To be sure of food, water and a place to stay, the new house was the only option. The demolition team was booked for the old house and systems were already set up for the transition from the old house to the new one.
There really wasn’t anywhere else to go.
Once upon a time there was no house. The people lived simply on the land in harmony with the rest of creation and with each other.
They did not see themselves as apart from creation but as part of creation. Like a ray of sunlight, a grain of sand on a beach or a drop of water in the ocean, they knew they were linked to every other living thing of creation and that every other living thing of creation was linked to them.
It was because of this that they were careful to live without doing harm to any other part of creation because they knew that if they harmed one part of creation they were also harming themselves and the rest of creation. They lived like this for many, many years.
Then, one day, the people of the land saw an enormous ship sailing towards the shores of the land they lived on. As it grew closer, they saw men covered from head to toe in strange garments carrying objects they had never seen before.
The ship stopped and some men climbed down into a smaller boat and headed for the shore. Wary but curious, the people of the land moved to meet them.
A man got out of the boat and walked towards them.
The people of the land greeted him courteously, stifling their amusement at the way he was dressed.
The man opened his mouth and spoke gobbledygook. Again muffling their giggles the people of the land used sign language to try and communicate. They offered food and water.
The man offered them some brightly coloured objects which seemed to have no use but which were accepted gracefully by the people of the land who did not want to seem ungrateful. The man went back to his ship.
Days passed and the men from the ship visited daily. The people of the land continued to be polite but they could not comprehend what the men wanted or why they persisted in giving them so many useless objects made from materials they had never seen before.
Most of the people of the land tried to get on with their usual way of life but one or two of them spent time with the strange men, learning their gobbledygook in an attempt to find out what they were doing there. Eventually, they called a gathering of the people of the land.
They explained that the men on the ship wanted to build a great house, which was a place for everyone to live. The men on the ship would teach the people of the land how to live in the house and new ways of living with each other. They would teach them their gobbledygook and show them how to cover themselves like the men on the ship. They would show them new ways to keep healthy, new ways to eat and new ways to raise their children. They would give the people of the land some of their strange things and teach them how to use them.
The people of the land talked for a long time. They did not see anything wrong with the way they already lived their lives in harmony with the rest of creation.
They had also seen the men from the ship behaving in ways they did not like; the men killed some of their animal friends with things called guns, made fires and sometimes drank something that made them behave very stupidly and even made them ill.
The food the men gave the people of the land made them feel unwell and some of them had also felt ill just from being in contact with the men. They could not see what benefit the house would bring them.
The people of the land politely refused the offer of the men on the ship and went about their business, expecting the ship to leave. To their surprise, the next morning, they found all the men from the ship lined up on the shore holding their guns. They said they had come to build the house for the people of the land.
The people of the land repeated their disinterest in the house and asked the men to leave. One of the men from the ship fired his gun into the air. The house was to be built.
So began a time of terror for the people of the land; anyone who refused to go along with the men from the ship was killed. Women were taken and children beaten.
Other people of the land arriving to help were killed or forced to help with the building of the house. More men arrived on ships with more guns and the mass murders began.
The people of the land resisted as they could until they were worn down by the endless murder and destruction.
For the sake of their children, the remaining people of the land subjected themselves to the will of the men from the ship.
They helped to build the house and took up residence in it. They learned the ways of the men on the ship, to work for the men on the ship and to send their children to the learning centres of the house.
They tried to teach their children the stories of their previous peaceful way of life but they were so traumatised they found it hard to talk about and the stories they did tell were usually contradicted by what their children were taught at the learning centres.
Many of the older people of the land died of broken hearts.
More men, women and children arrived on ships and also moved into the house. They were given the best rooms and the important work. The people of the land who had the energy to care were aggrieved by this and complained.
The builders of the house smoothed things over with a few promises but nothing much changed; the problems of the house had begun.

You are now talking the language (consciousness) of Love For Life, though you have used different metaphors and words to describe what you are feeling - we have been putting out this heartfelt-inspired information since 2005, although we never claim exclusivity or privilege to this information which is freely available for all. The only difference to what you have suggested is that we are focused on inspiring others to awaken to the truth that their acts of love that benefit others is consciousness (life-sustainable thoughts, feelings, actions) and is who we really are. We are talking about stepping outside the holograms (we call them constructs - the invisible world - the fairytale - the civilisation of commerce - HELL) that we have been trained to project, back to the reality of the world (the conscious-living life-form) of nature. The ascension Christtoff mentioned is actually the stepping out of the hologram. There really is no shift in consciousness going on. The shift in consciousness is really just letting go of all the bullshit, pealing off all the layers of the hologram until all that is left standing is MAN.
Quantum Physics is presumably suggesting that the world of nature is also a hologram but we see one very important difference between the world of nature and the superimposed world of fiction, which is that the world of nature is life-sustainable, not needing our energy/power of creation to be maintained, although, we being part of that life sustainable world, it does need us to love, to think and feel the information of that living-dream for us and it to exist. We (MAN) need to think and feel the information of consciousness in order to act upon it (put our energy/power of creation into - LOVE) and co-create with the life forms of the living world (the-living-dream). The real illusion, however, the world of fiction (the hologram), needs our energy/power of creation to appear to physically/materially exist. What a price we and the rest of the natural world pays for this, as we have to destroy our REAL lives and that of the rest of the REAL world to give the hologram a physical/material form to interact with. For example, we destroy a mountain to create skyscrapers.
Every Dream Has A Creator - A Dream Home Embodies All The Information Of The Architect And Family Who Dreamt It
The living creator created a living dream and filled all the information (the consciousness) the creator felt and thought into the living dream and created MAN to embody the FULL power (the consciousness and the WILL) of the living-creators creation to interact with the information (the consciousness) of this living dream (LIFE) so that we (MAN) can choose to either co-create or destroy the living dream. The other life forms of creation need the energy we put into creation so that they can bounce it back at us in the form of their creation. The sun shines because it is bouncing back the love (the consciousness) we project. If we were no longer thinking, feeling and projecting our love into the living dream, the sun would have no energy with which to shine, just as the hologram will fade away when we stop putting our energy into it, just as any relationship will fade away and die if we stop loving our partner, just as Kellogg's will perish if we all stop buying their products
We are loved because we love. While we love we are loved by everything we love. The more we can remember who we really are, what we are really part of and our true purpose, the more we will love and the more we remember to love every bird, flower, insect and mountain, the more they will turn around and love us so that we can return to our true role. If nature is hostile to us, it is because we have made it so. The more we love nature, the less hostile it will become. What we see as "ferocious" beasts, will not harm us when we truly love them. For the Garden Of Eden to be restored we have to get rid of the hologram; stop feeding it with our energy. It is this hologram that has turned creatures into wild beasts and we, including ALL our ancestors, are responsible for this. The creatures, now hostile, are ONLY bouncing back the darkness we project and that darkness is the information of the hologram we think, feel and act on. The animals are trying to fit into the hologram. They are only doing what is asked of them because they love us.

When conscious, and through consciousness, we think and feel the dream to create a table, we then act on this dream by putting our energy/power of creation into it to create it. In the same way, when conscious, we create the dream of our children and embody the dream with all our thoughts and feelings and explode this information (consciousness) into the dream though our egg and sperm. When do we need to get out a compass, square and tape-measure to size up our children before we create them?????

We (MAN) cannot interact with the hologram with any of our senses of creation (sight, sound, touch, taste, feel, smell) without first destroying the natural world to create some physical/material form for the hologram that we can see, touch, taste, etc. We can only IMAGINE the hologram and project the IMAGES (the shadows) of the hologram for other men, women and children to imagine them as well, but at no time can we experience them with our senses of creation without first destroying LIFE (reality). We have to create a hologram (a shadow) that is our invisible SELF, Person, Strawman, etc, a DEMON cloaks the MAN we are because we have to think and feel the information of the hologram in order to interact with the hologram of the system. We had to create darkness (shadows) to interact with darkness (shadows) because the light can't see the darkness because it doesn't exist. The darkness is invisible but the Satanists revere it as being "illumined", and ALL powerful, The All Seeing Eye (and shadow/apparition/ghost/phantom/demon) Of Their Lord And God Satan. The non-life-sustainable thoughts and feelings of darkness are the invisible mind, the invisible intellect and the invisible ego that form the demon that cloaks (shadows) the MAN.
The disaster of this is that we are now slaves (worshipers) to the physical/material representation of the hologram because it is not life-sustainable and cannot maintain its form without our energy/power of creation. Note: it is a form (a shadow) rather than a life form. It has no life because it has no consciousness of the creator embodied in its form and this is why it is a dead-corpse. The creator put its consciousness into every life form the creator created so that it could be life-sustainable and re-create its form., e.g. seed to flower to seed to flower, etc,. Everything re-creating life (not after-----life) is embodying the consciousness (the life) of the creator.

The acting SELF is the demon that creates the hologram because MAN's brain has been educated to think and feel information that is not life sustainable, not pure and sincere, not part of reality and therefore invisible. Putting our energy/power of creation into these non-life sustainable thoughts and feelings creates the hologram which is the program of MANS apocalypse (spiritual-suicide - fall from consciousness). Everything of the Satanic world streams out of MAN's brain, like aircraft carriers carrying squadrons of destructive thoughts and feelings to DO HARM.
Money is one of the biggest weapons in the Establishment's "divide-and-rule" chest of arms. Unfortunately for all involved, they are truly lost and totally unaware of their inevitable spiritual suicide if they do not pull out of the Kamikaze nose dive into a disastrous state of permanent oblivion. All this talk of matriarchy and patriarchy is a continuation of the Rules of the Divide - pitting men and women against one another instead of bringing them together. If you look at the garbage on TV that most people watch, men are usually portrayed as stupid, sex-obsessed idiots with women running rings around them. With many men and women managing to have happy relationships of mutual love and comprehension, those with relationship problems should be looking only at their lives and how they are acting around their partners. Almost 17 years old, a male border collie with a very strong heart who wanted to keep going even though his body was collapsing. All I will add to this excellent statement by anonymous is that the whole of Earth (creation) is sacred.
There is no location or drop of water or grain of sand more sacred than another.
The sacredness of life rests with MAN who thinks and feels sacred thoughts and feelings and acts on them, and IS therefore sacred as well.
There is no exclusivity or privileges with sacred MAN because he/she sees all men, women and children as sacred with the inherent creator's birth right to care-take/co-create the land he/she was created with and upon - your tribal/community/village name as native title - the title. As sacred MAN, we work with the information of the living creator, the consciousness of the creator that is the consciousness of all of us and of every living thing. It is this consciousness that gives us our "title" (the title of the heart - no chopping down of trees necessary) to land because, while we are working with (thinking/feeling) the information of consciousness (the living God), we are the living instruments of the creator and we will do no harm and be worthy caretakers of the land. Sacred MAN does not see barter or contract or sovereign because they are nowhere to be found in the living information of the living dream that he/she is working with. Everything sacred MAN thinks, feels and does is a gift for creation so, with all of sacred MAN behaving in this way, everything is taken care of, no one is left to starve and nature is not destroyed.
Creation is a fabric and we are all threads of the fabric of creation. The problems we are all facing arise from the fact that we have frayed away from the rest of the fabric of creation, becoming "individual" threads that think and feel only for our own "needs", regardless of how those "needs" affect the rest of the fabric of creation. However, our"individual" thoughts, feelings and actions still affect the rest of creation, hence all the destruction in the world and in us.
When we remember that we are a thread, a co-creator, entwined with the rest of the threads that make up creation, we also remember that every thought, feeling and action on our part contributes to either the blossoming or the destruction of creation. Only when we act with full responsibility, making sure that we Do No Harm in thought, feeling or deed, can we be sure that we are truly MAN, co-creating creation with the creator. Being a co-creator, a thread fully entwined, does NOT mean that we lose our uniqueness; we all have different skills and experiences and there are any amount of ways to live for creation while doing NO HARM.

Hello Everyone
I wrote this unedited reply very quickly in response to receiving a series of emails over the past week from various, respected front-line freedom-truthers around the globe who individually feel strongly about issues such as but not limited to
a) creating a new constitution,
b) creating a true democratic government with due process,
c) creating a new monetary system,
d) creating wide-spread class actions against all banks,
e) putting an end to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund,
f) smashing the system of bondage,
g) getting rid of the powers that be (the establishment) presently ruining everyones lives,
h) strict guidelines of sacredness,
i) returning to native titles,
j) protect fee simple.
These determinations resonate strongly with millions and millions around the globe today but are they the right remedies?
Will they cure our global, social and community problems (chaos) permanently?
By heading down this path are we and our children and grandchildren and great grand children heading on the right track back to truth and an everlasting freedom, peace and abundance for all?
I say NO because I feel that there is something that keeps getting overlooked that is critical to the future of our world.
I now explain why........

Do No Harm.
Here it is in two simple sentences;
We do not need unnatural systems of copyright, commerce, rule-of-law, government and ownership because we, MAN, are part of the living dream that is the natural world that already has everything we need for joyful, abundant lives. All that is required is for us to focus on acts of love, doing no harm and what we can do to serve life rather than on ownership and me, me, me, I, I, I.
For those who didn't take the time to read those words slowly, clearly and with much thought about what they mean, here it is in many paragraphs;
All systems of copyright, commerce, rule-of-law, government, powers-that-be, and ownership are unnatural and require destruction to the earth, starting with the destruction of MAN; those of you who think the remedy to our problems is to replace the current unnatural system with another one, are still trying to impose the unnatural upon the natural. A new, unnatural system will still require destruction to the natural form of earth which is the natural form of MAN; which bit of the earth are you going to destroy for your new unnatural systems? Which mountain, valley, river or creatures? Who will take full-responsibility for the destruction of that mountain, valley, river or creature? Would you please send me a list of the parts of the earth that you have ear marked for destruction to enable your new unnatural systems?
Also please send a list of the men and women who are going to act unnaturally by becoming the third party administrators, governors and managers of your new unnatural systems. Have they been given full disclosure that they will be taken away from their natural way of life to act unnaturally, to be consumers (destroyers) of the natural form? And what unnatural systems will you put in place to ensure that none of them become power hungry and set themselves up as dictators, and their children after them?

We have learnt to memorise them so well that we barely listen to the information of creation any more and think that all the images of our fantasy world are true.
So deep does this fictitious program of destruction go that almost all the thoughts and feelings we think and feel every day have been compromised causing us to spend all our waking time surviving these beliefs. We are running around propping up all kinds of beliefs that have come from third parties and that take a lot of our energy to maintain. In our fight to maintain our beliefs we become arrogant and ignorant, refusing to listen to the beliefs of others in case they prove to be "better" than ours.
Living out of our memories, we often can't really hear what people are saying to us because everything we hear is filtered through our memories and dismissed if it doesn't fit in with our memorised brain programming. Our ability to live in the moment, the here and now, has been forgotten and our memorisation leads us to being self centred "individuals" (in divide u all s) because we have to expend so much energy propping up the images of our beliefs that we haven't got any energy left for others any more.
Once we have forgotten how to live in the here and now, we can only live out of our memories, no longer listening to the information of creation, lost in the endless mazes of the matrix. The Western World Civilisation of Commerce only exists in our memories; it is nowhere to be found in nature. No matter how hard you try, you will never find the Western World Civilisation of Commerce in the forests, oceans or mountains, you will never find it in the desert or the volcanoes. The only place you will find the Western World Civilisation of Commerce is where we have put our energy/power of creation into creating dead images out of destroyed creation (life-forms inanimate or not) that we spend our lives remembering to maintain."

I fail to comprehend how the men and women at the State Debt Recovery Office have the authority to order the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) to suspend the drivers licence of a State owned legal name, when that party is acting as agent in commerce and trustee in trust of the rights and assets of the free will adult man, commonly called :Arthur: of the Cristian family, a license that has been issued upon proof of my being proficient in the operation of an automobile, when the contracts they are trying to enforce have nothing to do with my proficiency in the safe operation of an automobile. Is this not more evidence of a monopoly involving two private corporations that are supposed to be independent of one another? Is there collusion between men and women to do harm to my family?
Is this an issue of liability? Of damage or threat of damage to another party’s unalienable rights? I take full responsibility for everything I think, feel and do; I don’t pass the responsibility for my actions onto third parties or hide behind third party titles and costumes as the men and women in the State Debt Recovery Office and the corporations that represent the Government do. When no one is taking full-responsibility for their actions, we have anarchy – how can I care for my family if I am surrounded by people of authority taking no responsibility for their actions?
If there is no breach of the Statutes of the Monopolies Act, how is it that the RTA and the SDRO are working together? Why do they each have different ABN and ACN numbers???? And as they are private corporations conducting business with customers under the umbrella of the New South Wales State Government you represent, does this mean that your Government is now a liability to my family because the men and women of authority working under its umbrella are doing nothing to stop this tyranny (rape, pillage, plunder, fraud, extortion, intimidation, harassment, terrorism, fear, trauma, terror, nightmares, uncertainty, abuse, ridicule, lies, deception, collusion, lack of full disclosure...)? It appears that the corporations operating as Government “authorities” that are the New South Wales Police Service and the New South Wales Courts (which also have separate ABN and ACN numbers) are supporting this tyranny when they are dealing with the same customers over the same matters.
Are there not many breaches of the Trade Practices Act going on? Why does my family have to be caught up in all this? Under the present circumstances, when men and women take on a State owned driver’s license in the name of their agent in commerce, the State owned legal name, are we not supporting the abuse of other men and women and their families? How does having a driver’s licence have anything to do with competency behind the wheel when it is being used as a tool to do harm by men and women of authority hiding behind Government corporation titles taking no responsibility for their actions? What does a driver’s licence have to do with Government corporation’s commercial transactions? Why should a driver’s licence affect the well being of my family or anyone’s family? If a driver’s licence is there just as a record to say that someone has learnt to control a car competently and is therefore not a danger to the community, so be it, but the licence should not be used as an excuse for government tyranny.

A 25-metre high dirt pyramid will mark the Liverpool interchange of the Westlink M7. Exclusive plans revealed by Roads Minister Joe Tripodi show how the grass-covered pyramid will become a landmark in Sydney's south-west.
The pyramid will be capped in a red peak and will be lit up at night by a blue light.
Compacted soil collected during construction of the M7 - which is being built under a joint venture between Abigroup and Leighton Holdings - will be used for the pyramid.
"The design is a world first, using about 100,000 tonnes of soil from the area," Mr Tripodi said. "It will become a local landmark and a reference point for people travelling in western Sydney. "We know people use the Crossroads as a guide but soon everyone will be using the pyramid instead.

This posting is our response to the recent incarceration of a well-known Australian member of the Honour/Dishonour movement and our own experience of having our administrative processes completely ignored. Real freedom does not lie with hours and hours of paperwork or hours and hours fighting in the courts in ways that may or may not work and that do nothing to heal the isolation and separation we have all been conditioned into. We know that we have been promoting the honour/dishonour stuff but we really feel that to continue this work is to be going in the wrong direction. The only remedy comes from the creation of tribes where we are no longer isolated and easily picked off but where there are always large numbers of us available to stand up if the powers-that-be try to pick on anyone.
There is a fair amount of repetition below, which we have allowed because we find that most of us are still so bamboozled by the brainwashing of the fictional fairytale of the Western World Civilisation of Commerce that we continue fighting for it, despite lamenting its restrictions on our freedom and its cruelty. We want remedy and remedy can only be found OUTSIDE the Western World Civilisation of Commerce. Until we can clearly distinguish what is of the fairytale and what is of creation, we will never find remedy. Time (although it does not exist!) is of the essence, folks, and if we don't move fast we will find ourselves either trapped by the Establishment (the lost heading nowhere, offering no remedy) as they bring in martial law, pandemics, enforced vaccinations and chemical genocide or we will create a cleansing through the Earth's fever and who knows how many of us will survive that? How important will all the fiction we are hanging onto seem when there are soldiers in the streets or tsunamis rolling in? How important will our views and our cars and our holidays seem when there isn't any food in the shops and we haven't grown our gardens? What are we hanging onto? What could be more exciting, fulfilling and revolutionary than creating a little piece of paradise with our own hands and kissing the private corporations goodbye because we no longer need them?
Those within the system, promoting and maintaining the system whether for the benefits they receive or because they are too brainwashed to see an alternative, will only walk away from it when they can no longer ignore their consciences. When we demonstrate a way of life that does no harm, the constant harm being done in the fairytale will become more and more obvious until only the very hardened will wish to continue on the path of destruction. Until the cogs in the wheel listen to their consciences, their fears of not being able to provide for their families, of being ostracised by friends and family and of retribution from those still within the system will keep them in line. Paperwork and dealing with the establishment systems does not prick consciences. Only acts of love created and released freely prick consciences. Let's get on with it.

Found safe: Police are defending the scale of the search for Tim Holding, who spent two nights lost in the alpine region. (ABC Local Radio: Allison Jess)
Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Kieran Walshe has refused to be drawn on media reports that a top-secret spy plane was used in the hunt for missing State Government minister Tim Holding.
Yesterday Premier John Brumby said he had expected Mr Holding to be found alive on Mt Feathertop because his torchlight and body heat had been spotted on the mountain on Monday night.
The lost bushwalker was eventually located by helicopter crews at around 10:00am on Tuesday.
Reports today say the Monday night sighting was made by a mystery plane equipped with either infra-red or thermal imaging equipment. The High Court Of Australia ruled that a statutory body (i.e. a private corporation) that is not a court has no judicial authority and cannot act judicially. An example being that the SDRO, a statutory body of New South Wales (another statutory body) of the Commonwealth Of Australia (another statutory body), cannot impose any judgement or penalty or fines, which can only be done by a court. The SDRO is not a court, instead is a private corporation conducting business/commerce. So the cancelling of car licences and registrations at the direction of the SDRO to the RTA of New South Wales, Australia (another private corporation conducting business/commerce) is unlawful. So Says The Rules Of The High Court Of The Land, that's unless there is a twist and all Australia's courts be it common, admiralty, civil, equity, family, children, local, high, federal, supreme, etc, are statutory bodies and the people were not provided with full disclosure that the judges, magistrates, etc were actually conducting business/commerce.

Just having to engage with the system that supposedly supports justice for all of us is so daunting that most of us prefer to do whatever it takes to avoid having to deal with it, even if we can afford to give all our savings to the lawyers. This leads us to accept the harm that is being done on a daily basis, rationalising it and numbing ourselves to it to the extent that we think it is normal.
Q: When is it ok to threaten someone who has done no harm, drag them from their car, use physical force against them, injure them, kidnap them and hold them against their will for a few hours without any recriminations or comeback?
A: When you are wearing a Police uniform (or any other law enforcement or military uniform).
We do not mean any harm to Policemen/women and recognise that, while many men and women refuse to take responsibility for the harm they are causing, Policemen/women do a tough, necessary job to prevent murder, violence, abuse, theft and all other crimes of harm from running rampant. However, we have got to the stage where Policemen/women spend the majority of their time acting as police officers (policy enforcers) enforcing statutes, raising revenue from men and women who are injuring no one and creating no disturbance of the peace.
As you will see, the amount of man power, time and energy that has been spent hounding Fiona over what started as a dog fine and a failure to vote fine is considerable and surely could have been better spent chasing someone who was doing harm to other men, women or children. The number of statutes in existence is such that lawyers can't keep up with them, let alone you and me and we suspect that most men and women are breaking some statute or other, daily or even hourly, without realising it.
The artificial "persons" that are the corporations of the Government, law, private corporations, Police services, State and Federal departments, etc have been given legal rights as "persons" placing them above real living men, women and children and we are taught through our brainwashing education system to act out roles in the fairytale that is the dead corpse Western World Civilisation of Commerce to support and maintain the system that is destroying both us and the natural world that sustains us. These artificial "persons" are the props that form the infrastructure of the fairytale. To stay in the fairytale, we have to pay our dues to the copyright holder of the fairytale in the form of royalties, interest, taxes, registrations, fees, licences, certificates, passports, tolls, permits, titles, etc, in order to be able to use the intellectual proprietary knowledge and props of the copyright holder.
It is all about commerce with money being the life blood of the deathstyle system and we are renters of the copyright knowledge because we have been taught to believe that this knowledge is real and necessary for us to live. We have to abide by the rules, regulations, rituals, procedures and conditions of the copyright holder just as we would have to abide by the rules, regulations and rituals of the copyright holder of Harry Potter if we wanted to use/market/distribute/advertise anything of that copyright knowledge. If you break the conditions, there are penalties enforced by agents of the copyright holder. Everything to do with the Western World Civilisation Of Commerce is about paying for the use of the copyright, making us slaves in the guise of renters/serfs/commoners/goi/goy to the copyright holder and its "official" authorised representatives and agents.
It is all about the harm we are doing on a daily basis just by the way we live and how we can stop that harm. If the systems we live under, the houses we live in, the way we get around and the way we behave towards one another cause harm, they are not worth the benefits (any benefit) they appear to provide. We put so much effort, so much time, into supporting and protecting a system that that does not protect or support us but lets us lose our homes, our livelihoods and tears apart our families and communities. Our Western World systems of commerce, law, banking, corporations, media, religions etc, are all about harm. How sick are we to keep propping up that which destroys us?
We are not responsible for the fear people feel. Some men and women are scared to be associated with us for fear of what it may do to their positions in the system or because of what others may think of them, and others because they do not take the time to comprehend what we are talking about so they think we are nutcases. In the end, they are all passing the buck, waiting for someone else to come up with the solution to the constant harm doing of the system. We all have the responsibility to stop the destruction so please make sure you comprehend the remedy we offer before you reject it. What could be wrong with a remedy that offers a life of true freedom, joy and abundance FOR ALL?

Our intent is to demonstrate that we are all being used as cogs in a machine that benefits only a very, very few, very, very, wealthy and very, very powerful men and women (in the fiction). We are nothing to them; they do not even see us as living, breathing, loving men and women, only the chattel they need to maintain the system that benefits them and them alone. This system will only continue while we do not take responsibility to find out for ourselves if everything we are told is true and, if we find out that we have been lied to (as anyone who does a little research soon realises), take responsibility to do something about it. This is what the Cristian family is all about. We do not see a future for our children in the commercialised world the way it is and we have a remedy that will create freedom, peace, joy and abundance for all those who choose it. Our intent is to show as many men and women as possible that we are lied to constantly about everything and that often, the careers and jobs we are forced to do to maintain a roof over our heads and food on the table, are contributing to all the suffering in the world because, by supporting the evil system of commerce we live under, we are supporting the suffering.

POLICE OFFICERS, SHERIFF'S OFFICERS, TOW TRUCK DRIVER AND STATE DEBT RECOVERY OFFICE BLATANTLY IGNORE THE LAW TO RAPE, PILLAGE AND PLUNDER THE PRIVATE PROPERTY OF FIONA CRISTIAN
At around 10.45am this morning, 11th March 2009, a police car with two police officers (policy enforcers representing the private corporation NSW Police Force Bowral branch), Ron Dole and Karen Valente arrived at Fiona Cristian’s home. Fiona is a free woman, a walking, talking, living, breathing, creating flesh and blood WOMAN with consciousness embodied, not a person/private corporation and she does not have any contracts with any private corporations.
On Friday 3rd April 2009 Arthur served documents on the Registrar and Magistrate at the Moss Vale Court yesterday, including the unfinished, partly edited version of the letter to the Queen (See: http://loveforlife.com.au/node/6445).
All documents were stamped by the Registrar. We served a stamped copy on the Bowral Police as well.

This event, on the 4th April 2009 was filmed secretly at Blacktown Sheriffs Auction Yard by supporters of the Love For Life work because they were not supposed to be filming on the premises, which is why it is wobbly. The same thing happened later with the 5 highway patrol police officers who were very aggressive. The guys filming were being cautious about attracting too much attention to what they were doing.

I fail to comprehend how the men and women at the State Debt Recovery Office have the authority to order the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) to suspend the drivers licence of a State owned legal name, when that party is acting as agent in commerce and trustee in trust of the rights and assets of the free will adult man, commonly called :Arthur: of the Cristian family, a license that has been issued upon proof of my being proficient in the operation of an automobile, when the contracts they are trying to enforce have nothing to do with my proficiency in the safe operation of an automobile. Is this not more evidence of a monopoly involving two private corporations that are supposed to be independent of one another? Is there collusion between men and women to do harm to my family?
Is this an issue of liability? Of damage or threat of damage to another party’s unalienable rights? I take full responsibility for everything I think, feel and do; I don’t pass the responsibility for my actions onto third parties or hide behind third party titles and costumes as the men and women in the State Debt Recovery Office and the corporations that represent the Government do. When no one is taking full-responsibility for their actions, we have anarchy – how can I care for my family if I am surrounded by people of authority taking no responsibility for their actions?
If there is no breach of the Statutes of the Monopolies Act, how is it that the RTA and the SDRO are working together? Why do they each have different ABN and ACN numbers???? And as they are private corporations conducting business with customers under the umbrella of the New South Wales State Government you represent, does this mean that your Government is now a liability to my family because the men and women of authority working under its umbrella are doing nothing to stop this tyranny (rape, pillage, plunder, fraud, extortion, intimidation, harassment, terrorism, fear, trauma, terror, nightmares, uncertainty, abuse, ridicule, lies, deception, collusion, lack of full disclosure...)? It appears that the corporations operating as Government “authorities” that are the New South Wales Police Service and the New South Wales Courts (which also have separate ABN and ACN numbers) are supporting this tyranny when they are dealing with the same customers over the same matters.
Are there not many breaches of the Trade Practices Act going on? Why does my family have to be caught up in all this? Under the present circumstances, when men and women take on a State owned driver’s license in the name of their agent in commerce, the State owned legal name, are we not supporting the abuse of other men and women and their families? How does having a driver’s licence have anything to do with competency behind the wheel when it is being used as a tool to do harm by men and women of authority hiding behind Government corporation titles taking no responsibility for their actions? What does a driver’s licence have to do with Government corporation’s commercial transactions? Why should a driver’s licence affect the well being of my family or anyone’s family? If a driver’s licence is there just as a record to say that someone has learnt to control a car competently and is therefore not a danger to the community, so be it, but the licence should not be used as an excuse for government tyranny.

In the Parramatta Local Court, there are three charges against me which are inescapably (even under their contrived and sinister "Criminal Procedure Act 1986") to be tried by a Jury because I, as the accuse, so "elect".
Because, the BANKS and JUDGES know that I will tell the TRUTH, the whole TRUTH and nothing but the TRUTH that will expose BANK FRAUD and TREASON by the JUDGES, that is documented on my website (http://www.rightsandwrong.com.au ), this afternoon "Magistrate" Marsden told me that the D.P.P. (Director of Public Prosecutions ...a particular person named Nicholas Cowdrey) will send in his team of saboteurs to oust the NSW POLICE FORCE Prosecutor "to decide if they will drop the charges", ie: ABORT / PERVERT THE COURSE OF JUSTICE.
I have made it abundantly clear that I have been trying to get TRIAL BY JURY for the last 13+ years.

Arthur received a phone call on the mobile late today from a representative of the NSW Jewish Board Of Deputies: The CEO Mr Vic Alhadeff (02 83531703 - 4.20pm - 24 minutes 57 seconds conversation), who has threatened to shut down the Love For Life website. He is accusing Fiona and Arthur of racism and hatred towards the Jews. He was not interested in the intent of the Love For Life website or the remedy it offers, his only concern being that someone could read an "anti" Jewish article like this one: The Six Ashkenazim Jewish Companies that Own 96% of the World's Media: http://loveforlife.com.au/node/3906 and decide the Jews are responsible for all our problems and go and murder a Jew. He was not interested in the fact that many Arabs feel they have "terrorist" tattooed across their foreheads just because they look like Arabs, or that women feel as though they are treated as sex objects because of the extremely suggestive marketing plastered everywhere, or that older single men feel they are looked upon as perverts and paedophiles etc.
Arthur also tried to explain: " Yes, it is obviously painful to have had loved ones die during the 2nd World War, but isn't it better to know the truth about what happened and whether the Holocaust really happened as it has been painted or whether the story has been twisted to suit Establishment agenda? Some of the "revisionists", as they are called, are themselves Jewish. Why all the secrecy over the Holocaust? Why is it illegal to question it in some countries? Why is there never any mention, no museums, no memorials, holidays, etc for the 60 million soviets (1920s - 1950s) and 60 million Chinese (1940s - recent times) murdered under tyranny? What about all the 100,000s of millions of men and women who have been murdered in genocides in South America, Africa, Australia, Asia, Europe, over the last 500 years?" He just didn't care about these holocausts, didn't want to talk about it or know about them.

Obviously this is not our view because of what we have stated above. We do not hate anyone, whatever religion they follow. We are always open to talk to any religious leader or politician and meet with any judge, member of the Bar, experts, academics, educators etc to share the remedy we offer that heals all the divisions between MAN and MAN, and MAN and the EARTH.
Today, a representative of the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies is threatening to close the website down, because they have decided it is anti - Jewish and that we promote racism. What has the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies done to end the suffering in the world? Can they show that they are concerned with the suffering of ALL men, women and children AND ARE SEEN TO BE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT or are they only concerned with Jewish affairs? If so, they, along with all the other religions that only care for their own, are part of the problem, not part of the solution. The man who rang Arthur today was only concerned with Jewish affairs; he was not interested in our intentions or in anybody else, just as most Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Catholics, etc, are only interested in their own. While we separate ourselves into groups, dividing ourselves from others with rules, regulations, rituals, procedures and conditions, we will never solve our problems.
No matter what we in the Western World Civilisation of Commerce have been promised by our politicians, religious leaders, scientists, educators, philosophers, etc, for the past two hundred years, all we have seen is ever-increasing destruction of men, women and children and the earth. None of the so-called experts and leaders we have been taught to rely on are coming up with a solution and none of them are taking full-responsibility for the fact that they can't handle the problem. All religious books talk about end times full of destruction and suffering but why do we have to follow this program when there is an alternative to hatred, mayhem and death? Why are our leaders following the program of destruction and death rather than exploring the alternatives? It seems that any mainstream politician, priest or academic are only interested in supporting the RULES OF THE DIVIDE, that maintain the haves and the have nots. For 200+ years, 99% of the world population have been so trained to pass on their responsibility for themselves, others and the earth, that the 1% of the population that make up the leaders of the rest of us are making all the decisions leading to the destruction of all of us and the earth. Let's not forget the education system that brainwashes the 99% of the population that we are free and have equal rights while, in fact, we are feathering the nests of those at the top.
At the root of all our problems is self-centredness, an unwillingness nurtured by the Establishment that keeps us concerned only with our own needs rather than the needs of others around us and the Earth. Instead of creating and releasing acts of love for those around us as gifts to benefit them and the earth, we take, take and take, until there is nothing left. The whole point of the Love for Life website is to show people the root of all our problems and to share the remedy. The extensive research library is there to attract browsers and to provide access to information not available through mainstream channels. If the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies can, after careful examination of our work, prove that anything we are saying is wrong, we will be happy to accept their proof. "The Way of Truth is evil spoken of" because of pagan "catholicism" and her harlot pagan "christian" daughters ;-(
Their "imag"ined "jesus christ" is not The Messiah! It was some five hundred years ago that they named one head of their three-headed pagan "god", "jesus", during a time that has been called the "reformation". Prior to that time there was no "j" sound in the english language.......period.......
And the pagan "christian" name of 'jesus' is the transliteration of The Messiah's G-D given Hebrew birth name from the pagan catholic latin word 'iesus' not the pagan greek word 'iesous' which is recorded in all the greek transcripts from which religious "biblical" translations were made.......
And the "reformation", the time during which the english 'j' sound was "imag"ined, was an aptly named time! For it was a time when "catholicism" birthed her harlot "christian" daughters ;-( Her "christian" daughters are of her substance ;-( Her substance was merely "reformed" so that her "christian" daughters might appear a bit differently outwardly, yet inwardly they remained liken unto their pagan harlot mother ;-(

And Our Father(Creator) has promised that HE "will destroy those who are destroying and perverting HIS Creation(earth, air, water, vegetation, creatures, Light, Truth, Life, Love, Peace, .etc.)"!
Hope is there would be those who take heed unto The Only True G-D's Call to "Come out of her, MY people"!
All who take heed unto The Only True G-D's Call will exit "the broadway to destruction" and they will follow The Messiah on "The Way to The Truth of The Life"! They no longer will have their portion with the "catholic/christian" LIE or any other religious system of this world.
The Messiah testified, "whoever lives and believes in Me(His Teachings and Life example) shall never die."
And then The Messiah questioned, "Do you believe this?" YES!

Reflections on The Ethics of Selfishness

This essay is offered not as a full treatise on ethics but rather as a stimulant to new thinking about some old issues. It challenges some conventional notions about morality and invites a reexamination of certain ethical precepts often associated with spirituality, religion, and mysticism. It is an exercise in what, in “The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem”, I call “the practice of living consciously,” applied to the field of values. The focus of these reflections is the traditional identification of goodness with “selflessness.”
In an ethical context, “selflessness” means devoid of, or untainted by, self-interest. To behave selflessly is to act without concern for any benefit to oneself. This is commonly regarded as the essence of morality, especially in mystical traditions. It is held to be the way that spiritually evolved people behave. Indeed, such behavior is sometimes taken as evidence of one’s spirituality. By contrast, selfishness is commonly regarded as evidence of one’s non-spirituality.
Observe, first of all, that in equating unselfishness with morality, the implication is that self-interested actions are either immoral or nonmoral. That is, they are either bad or without moral significance. If, for instance, I protest paying taxes to support welfare programs of which I do not approve, then according to this code I am being selfish and therefore immoral. If I work to support myself, that is not immoral but neither is it admirable; it is ethically neutral.
This doctrine takes for granted as self-evident a clash between self-interest and morality: We can pursue our self-interest or we can be moral, but we can’t be both. And it upholds self-sacrifice as the ideal. Sometimes this ideal is expressed as “a life of selfless service.”
As one transpersonal psychologist puts it:
As [spiritual] awakening begins, motivations inevitably shift from the egocentric toward the desire to serve others. This kind of service is seen as absolutely necessary if the awakening and development are to continue; [spiritual] growth requires a life of service. [1]
What is significant about this viewpoint concerning the evil of “selfishness” is in how many versions it has appeared throughout human history. Don’t be selfish—subordinate your interests to those of the tribe. Don’t be selfish—subordinate your interests to those of the family. Don’t be selfish—sacrifice for the Pharaoh, Emperor, King, Church, Country, Race, State, Proletariat, Society, or Globe. Remember: Service is your noblest goal; selfishness is the root of all evil.
In this doctrine, selfishness is presumed to be narrow, petty, small-minded, materialistic, immature, narcissistic, anti-social, exploitative, mean-spirited, arrogant, ruthless, indifferent, cruel, and potentially murderous. These traits are evidently regarded as being to one’s self-interest, since they are labeled as expressions of selfishness. It is interesting to speculate about the psychology of those who believe this. By my own understanding I would say that these traits are self-destructive and that self-destruction is not to one’s self-interest.
If one’s goal is a happy and fulfilling life, self-interest is best served by rationality, productivity, integrity, and a sense of justice and benevolence in dealings with others. It is served by learning to think long-range and to project the consequences of one’s actions, which means learning to live responsibly. Irresponsibility is not to one’s self-interest. And neither is mindlessness, dishonesty, or brutality.
In taking for granted a conflict between morality and self-interest, exponents of self-sacrifice and selfless service assume, first of all, that no one could have a selfish interest in being moral, and second, that the purpose of morality is not to serve the individual’s well-being but to subordinate it to allegedly higher ends. These are the necessary presuppositions of the idea that morality equals selflessness. This doctrine says to the individual: Your life does not belong to you; you are not an end in yourself but only a means to the ends of others; you are here to serve; you have no right to exist for your own sake. What is remarkable is that when this moral vision is offered in a religious context, it is identified as an expression of “love for humankind.”
Consider the following example. A young woman—I will call her Marny—decides she would like to become an architect. Her father is deeply disappointed, because he had always dreamed that after college she would join him in the dress business. “Must you be so selfish?” Marny’s mother says to her. “You’re breaking your father’s heart.”
“If I don’t study architecture,” Marny answers, “I’ll break my own heart.”
So Marny goes to college to become an architect. While at college, she dates a young man who falls in love with her. He begs her to marry him, give up architecture, and become the mother of his children. “In the first place,” Marny tells him gently, not wishing to cause pain, “I don’t love you. And in the second place, I don’t plan to have children, at least not in the foreseeable future.”
“Not have children?” the young man cries. “How can you be so selfish? And don’t you care at all about my happiness?”
“Don’t you care at all about mine?” she responds, smiling.
A few years later, now a practicing architect, she meets a man with whom she falls in love. Marny sees in him the embodiment of the traits she most admires: strength, self-confidence, integrity, and a passionate nature unafraid of love or intimacy. To marry him, share her excitement and joy with him, nurture him at times, support him in his struggles as he supports her in hers—join with him in fighting for causes in which they both believe—is experienced by her as selfish in the most natural and benevolent sense of the word. She is living for her values. Her life is productive, stimulating, and filled with love.
So when her husband becomes ill, for a long time she curtails many of her activities to take care of him. When friends praise her for her “unselfishness,” she looks at them incredulously. “I love him,” is her only answer. The thought of selfless service would not occur to her. She would not insult what she feels for her husband by calling her caretaking self-sacrifice. “Not if you hold the full context,” she explains. “What would I do if I were ‘selfish?’ Abandon him? Whose notion of self-interest is that?”
Later, when her husband recovers and life has stabilized again, she returns to work with great passion. She is eager to make up for lost time. When certain of her friends call to discuss personal problems, she accommodates them for a while, but when she realizes how much of her energy is being drained by them she finally calls a halt. “Sorry,” she says. “I don’t want to disappoint you but right now I’ve got more urgent priorities.”
“God, but you’re selfish,” she is told.
When she deals with other human beings, she respects the legitimacy of their self-interest and does not expect them to sacrifice it, any more than she would sacrifice her own. And she cannot understand why other people do not necessarily feel this way.
She notices that “selfish” is what some people call her when she is doing what she wants to do rather than what they want her to do. She also notices that while she is not intimidated by this accusation, many others are.
Question: Is Marny a virtuous woman or an unvirtuous one? Is she moral or immoral? Clearly, she is not an altruist, since altruism, in its literal meaning, is not merely kindness or benevolence but the subordination of self to others. But then what is Marny? What can we say about her?
The first thing I would say about her is that she operates consciously. And the next thing I would say is that she stands outside traditional moral categories: she is an exponent of rational or enlightened self-interest—a possibility not even acknowledged by those who talk about self-sacrifice as the moral ideal, and imply that the only alternative to sacrificing self to others is sacrificing others to self. Marny does neither; she does not believe in the practice of human sacrifice. She does not believe that masochism and sadism exhaust our moral possibilities.
Observe that everything she does is motivated by loyalty to her values. She acts on her judgment. And her judgment is thoughtful, not impulsive. For her husband, whom she loves most in the world, there are almost no limits on what she is prepared to do (within a rational framework). For her friends, there are many more limits; she is generous, but not to the point of ignoring her higher values. If she supports certain causes, it is because they concern values that are important to her and to the kind of world she wishes to live in. She respects self-interest but understands that what is or is not to one’s self-interest is not necessarily self-evident—it requires thought. And her range of concern is a lifetime, not the convenience or inconvenience of this moment. That is why I say she operates consciously.
The philosopher Immanuel Kant would tell her she is immoral, since everything she does is by selfish inclination. Kant taught that any action contaminated by self-interest to even the smallest degree can make no claim to moral merit—only that which is done out of duty can be virtuous. Hitler would tell her she has no right to live for herself, that her life is owed to the German race, and that the pursuit of personal happiness leads only to suffering. Stalin would tell her that her petty bourgeois preoccupations are absurd, that her egoistic inclinations are subversive, and that her life belongs not to herself but to the Proletariat, meaning the State. Mao would tell her it is evil and irresponsible for her to imagine that her person is her property—she must accept that she is to be disposed of as the People see fit. The Pope would tell her that her practice of birth-control is sinfully egocentric. A New Age psychologist enamored with the wisdom of the East might tell her she is retarded in her spiritual development because she still thinks of her happiness in terms of the narrowly personal. And a mystic would tell her that if she dedicates unknown years of her life to meditation, prayer, and study, eventually the veil of ignorance will fall away and she will grasp that selfishness is indeed the root of all evil and that only through selfless service can her soul fully awaken.
Now, if we want to talk about evil, I will say that these teachings are what I regard as evil—because of the consequences to which they lead for human life on earth.
No one inveighed against “selfishness” or advocated “selfless service” more passionately than the leaders of Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, Communist China, or Cambodia. Take a look at what those “ideals” mean when translated into political reality. More people have been tortured and murdered in this century than any other in history, and the justification was always “in the name of a higher good to which the individual must be subordinated.” Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot taught their people a lot about “selfless service.”
It could be argued that whatever may be true about the cases just cited, it does not apply to Buddhists, who are probably the most peaceful, non-violent people on the planet. This is correct, and it is a fair point to raise. However, consider this: if we teach that individuality is an illusion and that service to others is the essence of morality, what kind of cultural and intellectual climate do we help create? One that serves a society built on the principles of individual freedom and individual rights—or a society that proclaims duty to the collective above all? Is the doctrine of selfless service more likely to protect an individual when freedom is threatened, or make the individual more vulnerable to manipulation and control?
Anyone who practices psychotherapy almost certainly knows how frightened many people are of even the most appropriate acts of self-assertiveness—they do not know how to answer the charge that they are being selfish. How many people die in insane wars because they do not want to admit that they care more about their own lives than about some abstract cause that may make no sense to them? How many people give up their dreams and aspirations in deference to the needs and demands of others because they dread the charge of being egocentric? This is an open secret: almost everyone knows it and almost no one talks about it. Instead, we go on insisting that ego is the cause of all our misery.
In the course of everyday life, we are bombarded in a thousand ways with messages to the effect that “service” is the highest mark of virtue and that morality consists of living for others. We are told that the intelligent, the enlightened, the able, the competent, the strong must exist for the sake of those who lack those traits; that those who suffer or are in need have first claim on the lives and energy of the rest of the human race, that theirs is the right superseding all other rights. We are told that an individual’s mind and effort are the property of the community, the nation, the globe. We are told that those who have created wealth owe a particular debt to those who have not created it—including an apology. And all the while politicians, religious leaders, and intellectuals subtly or not so subtly chastise the electorate for being too reluctant to sacrifice for the greater good.
Most people do not try to practice the code of self-sacrifice consistently in their everyday choices and decisions. That would not be possible. But to the extent that they accept it as right, they are left in confusion, if not in a moral vacuum. They have no adequate set of principles to guide their actions. In relationships, they do not know what demands they can permit themselves and what demands they can permit to others; they do not know what is theirs by right, theirs by favor, or theirs by someone’s sacrifice. Under the pressure of conflicting personal desires and conflicting external injunctions, they fluctuate between sacrificing themselves to others and sacrificing others to themselves. They swing between the belief that self-surrender is a virtue and the knowledge that they must smuggle some selfishness into their lives in order to survive.
Small wonder that when some people do decide to be selfish, they are so often selfish in the narrow and petty sense rather than in the rational and noble sense. No one taught them that rational self-interest is possible—and that it is the obligation of a conscious human being to think carefully about what does in fact represent long-term self-interest. When they hear selfishness castigated as petty, cruel, materialistic, anti-social, or mean-spirited, these epithets strike a responsive chord within them: their own guilt feels like a validation of the charge.
If we are operating consciously, the most obvious question to ask, when someone proposes “a life of selfless service,” is why?
To quote novelist-philosopher Ayn Rand in “Atlas Shrugged”:
Why is it moral to serve the happiness of others, but not your own? If enjoyment is a value, why is it moral when experienced by others, but immoral when experienced by you? … Why is it immoral for you to desire, but moral for others to do so? Why is it immoral to produce a value and keep it, but moral to give it away? And if it is not moral for you to keep a value, why is it moral for others to accept it? If you are selfless and virtuous when you give it, are they not selfish and vicious when they take it? Does virtue consist of serving vice?
Those who tend to associate spirituality with selfless service typically offer two answers to the question of why? The first is not really an answer. It consists of the assertion that at a certain level of spiritual evolution, one gains the mystical insight—as a self-evident fact, requiring no further explanation—that one should take the path of selfless service. It becomes as obvious as the sun hanging in the sky—one simply sees it. This is not an explanation likely to impress a thoughtful person.
The second, and by the far the more interesting explanation, is the statement that the value of such service lies not so much in the help given the beneficiaries as in liberation from ego on the part of the one who serves. A life of service, it is said, facilitates self-transcendence. In secular terms, this is dangerously close to an egoistic justification: I will serve others as a means to personal development.
I confess I am not really clear on what a life of selfless service literally means. I cannot find a plain definition anywhere. Do we ask people what they would like us to do and then do it (like a solicitous “pleaser”)? Do we decide what we think is best for them and do that (like a totalitarian altruist)? Does it mean we abandon the life and work we chose before we attained liberation from ego and go searching the world for suffering to ameliorate (like anyone for whom self-surrender is glory)?
What also confuses me is that I have known a number of prominent intellectuals who became professors, wrote books, and then, at some point, saw the light and embraced the ideal of selfless service. They are still professors and they still write books, and in their books they talk about the ideal of service—but apart from that I cannot see how their lives has changed. Whom are they serving, and how are they doing it? (Some of them have become social activists dedicated to saving the world from capitalism, about which they know appallingly little.)
Perhaps I will be asked: But is not the justification for a life of service the fact that there is so much suffering in the world? Are not kindness and compassion virtues even in your morality?
The answer to the second question is yes, kindness and compassion are virtues. We cannot have a decent life without them. But why would anyone identify kindness or compassion with self-sacrifice? If it is in the name of one’s values—such as regard for the value of a human life—kindness can be as much an act of self-assertion as any other act of self-expression. And yes, there is a great deal of suffering in the world. And one of the reasons for that suffering is the fact that most people have never been taught a code of ethical principles that would support a truly human form of existence on earth.
One of the greatest causes of suffering on this planet is poverty. It follows, therefore, that if one is genuinely interested in relieving suffering and is disposed to approach the problem consciously, one would wish to understand how poverty is eliminated. Fortunately, the answer is known.
Prior to the industrial revolution and the birth of capitalism, poverty was the natural condition of almost all of the human race. It was not perceived as an aberration but as the norm. Ninety-eight percent of the world’s population lived in conditions unimaginable to a twentieth century citizen of the United States. That was poverty of a kind that makes what we call poverty today look like luxury. Then, dating from the time of the American Revolution, the ideas of individualism, human rights, and political-economic freedom—capitalism—began to sweep the Western world. To the extent that capitalism was accepted, which varied enormously from country to country, the result was an unprecedented rise in the standard of living of millions and millions of people that would have been inconceivable a century earlier. Infant mortality rates dropped and life expectancy leapt upward. In the brief span of less than two hundred years the West witnessed a growth in material well-being unequaled by the sum of human progress up to that time. At every step of the way, the freer the country was, the faster the rate of progress and the more rapid the decline of poverty.
What compassionate mystic understood what he was seeing, above all in the United States, stopped talking about self-sacrifice, decided to rethink his code of values—and began proclaiming the glories that were possible when human intelligence is liberated and people are free to act on their own initiative? What compassionate mystic—hit by a this-worldly vision—got enlightenment and realized that there might an answer to suffering this side of Nirvana, and began to champion the right of life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness?
Notice, even today, with the worldwide collapse of collectivist economies, how grudgingly the Vatican acknowledges the achievements of free minds and semi-free markets in raising the quality of our lives. Notice the resentment that still attaches to the word profit by glowering, cassocked Rip van Winkles who still think they are living in the year 1200 and have not yet discovered the industrial age, let alone the information age. Notice the arrogant presumptuousness of offering miserly recognition to entrepreneurs who have transformed the world—and immediately following it by scolding reminders that they are, after only, only servants of humanity and should not be allowed to forget it.
To carry this point still further: a major part of the world that for a very long time fiercely resisted the incursion of “Western ideas” is Asia, and this is an area where the influence of mysticism has been at its strongest and where for centuries poverty has been at its worst. But in the years following World War 2, the situation began to change. Slowly the ideas of entrepreneurial capitalism caught fire in the Asian mind. Men (and women!) of courage, initiative, and ambition began to challenge old traditions and think about the possibilities of this world, if governments would cede them even a modest degree of economic and political freedom. They got a little freedom, and then they pressed for a little more and a little more. The battle is still going on and is far from over. But what has happened has been described as a miracle.
To quote from John Naisbitt’s “Megatrends Asia”:
From 1945 to 1995, half a century, Asia went from rags to riches. It reduced the incidence of poverty from 400 million to 180 million, while its population grew by 400 million during the same period. The World Bank has pronounced that nowhere and at no time in human history has humanity achieved such economic progress, and concluded that the East Asia story is an economic miracle.
A significant aspect of this story is the cultural transformation in the role of women. An increasing number of Asian women have become entrepreneurs, against thousands of years of tradition. And more and more women are pouring into the workplace. (In Japan, for example, virtually all the currency traders are women.) To be sure, there is still much resistance to these changes, and there are still efforts to integrate Asia’s semi-capitalism into “the old ways,” resulting in some rather incongruous mixtures of practices and principles. That is culturally inevitable. But an extravagant source of human energy has been released by such freedom as has been permitted and is not likely to be bottled up again.
In an age in which few achievements seem to impress us and the most extraordinary triumphs of human intelligence often leave us blasé, take a moment to meditate on the meaning of the quote from Naisbitt. And then ask yourself:
Why aren’t the apostles of kindness, compassion, and concern for human suffering shouting about this historic achievement from the rooftops?
Why are they not celebrating the nobility of the entrepreneurial spirit and the power of the liberated mind to accomplish “miracles”?
Why are they not championing such life-serving virtues as independence, productive ambition, competence, self-responsibility, self-assertiveness, integrity, and the drive to innovate?
Instead, they still talk as if we lived in preindustrial times, before anyone grasped that wealth could be created, when all one could do at best was share one’s meager subsistence with a fellow sufferer, and the first traders and businessmen were looked on with scorn because of their concern with “material” reality. Perhaps, then, in the darkness and despair of the times, kindness and compassion were just about all human beings could offer one another. Certainly they could not project new industries that would offer employment to millions of people, build communities, heal poverty, and create undreamed of possibilities of survival and well-being. But today the evidence is all around us—and if it is not acknowledged and appreciated then we have to wonder whether the amelioration of suffering is really the primary agenda of these exponents of enlightenment, or whether other agendas are operating within them that enjoy a higher priority. With the best will in the world, I am unable to believe that blindness of this magnitude can be innocent.
It is not kindness, compassion, or selflessness that lift people out of poverty. It is liberated human ability—combined with perseverance, courage, and the desire to achieve something worthwhile and (sometimes) make money in the process. But of course, such motives are not unselfish. And that is why they can accomplishes “miracles.”
Kindness and compassion are virtues, to be sure, but what has carried the world and moved it forward, lifting humankind out of the cave and beyond a life expectancy of twenty-four—what has conquered disease and steadily lightened the burden of human existence—what has created and goes on creating new possibilities for fulfillment and joy on earth—is the rational, self-assertive egos of audaciously imaginative men and women who refuse to accept suffering and stagnation as our destiny.
If you doubt it, drop all our selfless politicians, social activists, and mystics into some jungle where people still live as they lived hundreds of thousands of years ago, barely able to scratch out subsistence and at the helpless mercy of every upheaval of nature, and invite these visiting humanitarians to create abundance.
“Even if everything you say is true,” I am sometimes asked, “hasn’t our progress generated new problems, new dislocations, instabilities, and dangers?” The answer is that every step of human progress creates new difficulties and challenges, and they can and will be overcome, but not by cursing the virtues that made the progress possible, not by curtailing the freedom that allows intelligence to function.
“But isn’t there more to life than mere material reality?” The short answer is, of course. For a slightly longer answer, I will quote a favorite passage of mine from Atlas Shrugged:
You, who claim that you long to rise above the crude concerns of the body, above the drudgery of serving mere physical needs—who is enslaved by physical needs: the Hindu who labors from sunrise to sunset for a bowl of rice, or the American who is driving a tractor? Who is the conqueror of physical reality: the man who sleeps on a bed of nails or the man who sleeps on an inner-spring mattress? Which is the monument to the triumph of the human spirit over matter: the germ-eaten hovels on the shorelines of the Ganges or the Atlantic skyline of New York?
I will add: and if India has become economically more developed than it was forty-plus years ago, when the above passage was first published—if, for example, once-starving India has now become an exporter of food—who are the persons responsible: those who preached the renunciation of ego or those who fought for greater freedom for the individual? Those who lead ashrams or those who lead research institutes and business enterprises? Those who stare at another dimension or those who work to transform this one?
If ego is the unifying center of consciousness, the faculty within us that thinks, judges, wills, and drives the process of achievement, then—before embracing selflessness as an ideal—reflect on the nature of a world from which ego has vanished and consider whether it is a world in which you would wish to exist.
Right here, right now, is an opportunity to live consciously.
