CREATIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE MODELS FOR EFFECTIVE NATIONALIST POLITICAL ACTION

A Commentary And Critique On The Current State Of Nationalist Affairs

These words are especially meaningful here in 2006, when a core cadre of revisionists -- Zundel, Rudolf, Irving, et al -- is imprisoned for thought crimes. Thousands of words will be written about this tragedy, but I want to share a positive story about a nationalist, populist, politically revisionist movement. Anti-globalist movements have already had tremendous impact in Venezuela and Bolivia, but their leadership and inspiration comes mostly from the Left. The movement featured here is also a movement of the people, dedicated to progress and positivism for their nation. But they are not inspired, by the weak and ineffective ideologies of the left, being solidly rooted in classic Western nationalist thought, a true Third Way between the equally destructive ravages of Capitalism and Communism. This is a story of a seed that is growing into a beautiful plant, a story of progress and activism in the face of stern opposition from the Powers That Be. While there are volumes about the nationalist movements of Europe, which are on the rise, our sole focus is on the Americas, both South and North. I am not saying that what is presented here is any kind of “magic key”, but join me in a brief look at a dignified, dedicated and successful populist/nationalist movement. This article is intended for anti-globalist, nationalist-minded readers all over the world, but especially those who do not read the Spanish language.

THE NEW TRIUMPH PARTY OF ARGENTINA: STRONG INTERNET PRESENCE LEADS TO FEET ON THE STREET

Some time ago, I discovered a colorful and useful web site with a name I really liked: The City Of Free Expression (Ciudad de Libre Opinion www.libreopinion.com). Accompanied by my trusty and travel-worn Spanish dictionary, I began spending time in this virtual city. Even if you don’t read very much Spanish, visit anyway to see photos and controversial party images (more below). If the ever vigilant anti-anti-semitic groups are correct, the City of Free Expression is a portal to over 300 “nazi”, “fascist” and “extremist” (read “nationalist”, “patriotic”) Internet sites. Indeed, it is a direct link to the subject of this article, the New Triumph Party (Partido Nuevo Triunfo), PNT. If La Ciudad truly is the host to that many sites, this further demonstrates their positive, persevering political activism. However, this was never limited to sending email and launching web sites. Nationalist comrades began to meet together for positive change in Argentina, a nation with tremendous potential. But, sadly, Argentina is also the perfect example of a victim nation in the clutches of the international monetary mafia. In spite of this, a New Hope, a New Model, a New Way presents itself under the influence of an inspiring and dedicated movement. A new political party was founded, with election campaigns, public meetings, parades and demonstrations soon to follow.

ALEJANDRO BIONDINI, THE KALKI OF MODERN POLITICS

Among the links at La Ciudad is the Red Kalki News Agency, with new postings each week, and a journalist by the same nom de plume. As a student of ancient Indo-Aryan religions, I know that Kalki is to be the tenth and final Avatar of our present cosmic age. Kalki, manifested as a great white horse carrying an angry Vishnu on his back, will sweep away the old corrupted and decayed order (Kaliyuga) and cleanse the world in preparation for a New Order, a New Age (Majayuga). This is exactly what nationalists, today and yesterday, have always attempted, but alas, have not always succeeded. This kind of creative and cataclysmic change is exactly what the Argentine Political Kalki, Alejandro Biondini, and the New Triumph Party have as their goal. And, Christian readers: don’t get upset about the Kaliyuga and all of that. That is merely my personal interest. The principles of the PNT are solidly and traditionally Christian.

NEW MOVEMENT CREATES CONTROVERSY FROM THE BEGINNING

Alejandro Biondini is not just a good writer, but also an orator and effective organizer. He began his political activities in the 1980s, founding National Alert, (Alerta Nacional) in 1986. After attracting numerous interested followers on the Internet, in 1990, he organized the Nationalist Workers Party (Partido Nacionalista de los Trabajadores) in 1990. In 1996, he created the National Socialist Youth of Argentina (Juventud Nacionalsocialista Argentina – JNSA), attracting young folk between 18 and 30 years. Among other controversial stands, the JNSA web site criticized the 1991 ban on the use of the Hakenkreuz symbol. By 1998, the national campaign began in full force, later coalescing into the PNT and the now well-known City of Free Expression, a powerful Internet presence and nationalist resource. The very up-to-date Red Kalki News Agency and the new party banner soon attracted new readers, members -- and attention. In September 2000, the PNT held a conference in a Buenos Aires hotel. The commercial TV channel, Crónica, broadcast the proceedings, including a speech by controversial Chilean nationalist leader Alexis López Tapia. The party continued their activism during 2001 and 2002, including participation in municipal elections, getting ready for the 2003 presidential campaign. While garnering only a few votes, Mr. Biondini was a very active and attractive candidate, gaining name recognition and media exposure for the PNT’s positions on issues vital to the Argentine people.

ANCIENT SYMBOL CAUSES POLITICALLY-INCORRECT FIRESTORM

The party symbol is very politically incorrect, to say the least. It now resembles a European style seven, but in the revolutionary red setting, one has little doubt of the origin. In the beginning, it was not just a likeness, but the entire, bold, unabashed Hakenkreuz itself! Mr. Biondini served a year and a half in prison in 1996 for displaying the old Indo-Aryan symbol on the cover of his Libre Opinion publication. He was convicted under so-called anti-discrimination laws, even after presenting evidence that the hooked cross was nothing more than an ancient solar symbol – which, assuredly, it is. While the PNT had the truth, once again, the enemy had the power – and they used it to oppress and silence Biondini. This fortunately failed, but after that, the PNT adopted the new symbol. Is there any connection with the number seven? Maybe not, but I didn’t read everything. Nonetheless, if you like numerical symbolism, then connect with the PNT’s seven principles for both spiritual and political enlightenment. The following commentary and position statement is my own, and not necessarily that of the PNT.

THE SEVEN VIRTUES OF THE NATIONALIST ACTIVIST
IMPART SPIRITUAL STRENGTH AND COURAGE

Faith -- Discipline -- Loyalty -- Solidarity -- Discretion -- Patience -- and Joy.
(Fe – Disciplina – Lealtad – Solidaridad – Discrecion – Paciencia – y Alegria.)

As I meditated on these lofty themes, the Seven Virtues of the Nationalist Activist, I reflected on the words of Third Position theoretician, Derek Holland. "To the Political Soldier, it must be said: we stand before the Apocalypse! Gird yourself and prepare for battle! … The materialists and relativists, the tyrants of the modern world, fear Death because for them Death is the End. But for us, revolutionary warriors, Death is not the End, but the Beginning. It is the doorway through which the Political Soldier alone can pass, for it leads to the world of the Elect - of those who fought on the Way of Truth, who sacrificed and struggled, and who merited their Just Reward.” These are truly inspirational words. When operating on this level, we know that many of us have already met death, and that more are to follow. Yet, even though strange in the eyes of the world, we are not really concerned! At this level of awareness, we are liberated from the fear of death, knowing that the living ideas of our Light-Seeking Movement are eternal and forever. Even if the Dark Forces kill all of us but one loyal comrade, the ideas live on. The movement of Truth and Light never dies. It recreates and renews itself over and over, always resurfacing at the proper times and places. This is the Faith, the Discipline, the Loyalty, the Solidarity, based on Discretion and Patience, that leads to the genuine Joy of the final victory.

Such a mindset is truly liberating; but while willing to face death and its fears, it is the living of life, based on solid principles, that causes a movement to advance and prosper. Movement activists must present themselves positively and properly, drawing others to the movement by the way they live their lives, just as did the early Christians, not being overly concerned by the corrupt world around them. “It is the task of the Political Soldier to promote the Will to live by revealing the true nature of life – as opposed to the materialist nightmare of this century which is mistakenly taken to be ‘life’ – and by living this life. In order to do this, the Political Soldier must undergo a Spiritual Revolution, an inner revolution which guides, directs and pervades his life.” Philosopher Julius Evola said much the same thing. “The only thing that matters today is the activity of those who can ride the wave and remain firm in their principles, unmoved by… the fevers, the convulsions, the superstitions, and the prostitutions that characterize modern generations.” And, he recognized the crucial need for a spiritual foundation. “There is little hope that anything may be saved when, among the leaders of a new movement, there are no men capable of integrating the material struggle with a secret and inexorable knowledge, one that is not at the service of dark forces but stands instead on the side of the luminous principle of traditional spirituality.” A few activists committed to these values can literally accomplish miracles. Any successful cultural-political movement must move forward from a solid spiritual base. This is evident to anyone who studies the past. A New Order of Spiritual Awareness is the first step toward ultimate victory for the nationalist activist, for the later doctrines and principles – and actions -- rise from this foundation. While Julius Evola spurned partisan politics, is this part of what he meant by metaphysical politics (metafisica politica)? I choose to believe so.

A PARTY PLATFORM FOR A NEW NATION, FREE OF INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND (IMF) USURY AND AMERICAN HEGEMONY

There is neither time nor space to do it justice here, but those who examine it will see that the PNT is a serious political party, with a carefully drafted thirty-four-point program for governing the nation. A Kalki government? Probably not, but with the way situations can change in the blink of an eye, I wouldn’t entirely rule it out either. The PNT intends to thoroughly reconstruct Argentine society. Universal military service would guarantee a strong nation, well able to defend itself. American readers must remember that lack of military preparedness was greatly responsible for the Malvinas War defeat in the early 1980s. For the Argentine patriot, this must never happen again. Moreover, the program demands the return of ALL territory ever taken from Argentina, including of course, the Malvinas Islands. The New Argentina would implement a completely pristine, non-usurious economic system, effectively freeing it from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) dictatorship that has maintained a stranglehold on this nation. Naturally, like all forward thinking South Americans, the PNT also knows that the USA hegemony must end. There is much, much more to this well constructed program. A NATIONALIST REPUBLIC MUST BE ECONOMICALLY INDEPENDENT

True independence, genuine personal and national sovereignty, is essentially based in economics. If a nation cannot support itself, then it is, by necessity, compelled to make alliances and accept negative usurious debt terms. Argentina is the eighth largest country in the world. By all rights, it should be a prosperous state. If the non-usurious economic reforms of the PNT were adopted, with a foreign policy independent of various hegemonies, it would be. There is no reason why the USA. (or certain regions within it) cannot be almost totally self-sufficient as well. Ideally, such nation-states would achieve a currency that would be valuable on the world money market. A totally non-usurious system would require complex logistics to implement, but the first step could be interest-free loans, within its borders. Instead of the corrupt “foreign aid” system, an independent nation-state might decide to make a loan to another friendly nation in need. Such loans, in country and out, could be more like loans from Islamic non-usurious banks. They regard the outlay of funds, not as a loan, but as an investment, a partnership, intended to make money for the lender as well as the borrower, a true win-win model. There are other ideas as well, but it is surely enough to say once again – there will never be a truly independent state without economic independence. Ultimately, this means a non-usurious system.

A BRIEF REPORT ON NATIONALIST MOVEMENTS IN NORTH AMERICA

I know mail will come; telling me about other plans and groups. An omission in no way implies disrespect or disdain for those not cited. I truly wish them all well, but choose to limit my coverage (in this particular article, at least) to the ones below. Not surprisingly, I hope that some of the models and concepts presented herein will inform and enlighten all nationalist-minded readers and writers, no matter what party or group or position they endorse. Canada has a great activist model with Canadian Association For Expression (CAFE). The Canadian Nationalist Party (CNP) continues its efforts, and the Northwest Homeland project in the USA also has Canadian sympathizers. There probably are other groups and figures unknown to me, and we must note that there are still plenty of independence-minded folk in Quebec. My comments about Canada are brief because our primary focus is on the USA.

The good news is that there are several movements, some rather new. The bad news is that, so far, they have had minimal impact, and, the most successful one has nothing to do with Euro-Americans at all! I’m told that groups in Vermont have seceded, but heard little more. Christian activists are moving to South Carolina with plans for eventual politically impact, and the Free State movement has targeted New Hampshire, but again, I have not heard much more. The Northwest Homeland project is still under way, but greatly deterred by lack of funds and actual feet on the ground. If it, like the PNT, could go from the Internet, where it apparently has a number of followers, to settlers on the ground, this one might bear fruit. On another part of the spectrum, the Nation of Islam continues their Black Nationalist separatist agenda, and they have plenty of feet on the ground. Regardless of your view of the NOI, their operation is diligent, dedicated, and spiritual. As did American nationalist George Lincoln Rockwell, I wish them well.

The Republic of Texas is back, with a “capital” (a former hospital building), and other accoutrements of a state. If you remember, the leaders of a former Republic of Texas group are serving long prison terms for an armed encounter with state police. In reality, Texas is a very viable nation-state possibility, and there are some feet on the ground. If the PNT model of demanding return of land that was seized or coerced away were successful, Texas would be one of the largest nations in the world. But, like many other Americans, most Texans don’t really think regional independence is viable, nor is it desirable to the business community. Not to mention that as of 2004, Texas is a majority Mexican-American state. This is not to say that a Republic of Texas cannot rise again, but the climate is not right -- at least not for Euro-Americans (see Aztlan, below).

And, there is a healthy and active movement of those following the model of the Confederate States of America, some regarding the CSA as still in legal existence. That’s fine, but exactly how such a nation state can be reconstituted is a major logistical problem, given the new population of the South, not nearly so white and “southern” as it once was. On a positive note, CSA has feet on the ground that turn out for rallies demanding respect for the old flag and related patriotic issues, tune in to radio shows, support candidates and causes, and participate at CSA-related web sites. There is a lot of enthusiasm, and spiritual underpinning, for this activist group. The CSA constitution is an important model nationalist document. Now, as to the original CSA: it was far from perfect, having enslaved itself from the beginning to the world banking and trade cartel, then chiefly manifested in the powerful banking houses of Europe. Moreover, they allowed Judah P. Benjamin (a Rothschild agent) to hold the purse strings! We all know Confederate money was a sad joke, but are we “shocked and surprised”? Even if they had won the war, the CSA would have been even deeper in Rothschild debt. The new CSA will have to do better than this – and I think they will. Following the PNT model of just saying “no” to usury (perhaps getting Southern bankers to make some exploratory no-interest loans?) might give even more thrust to this movement. CSA has supporters in several states, including some outside the Old South. A courageous and creative alternative to the usury monster might just do the trick. Could we someday have Confederate money that is actually worth something? It’s not impossible, you know.

And now last, but surely not least, we look at the most successful new nation project in North America, that of Aztlan, the aggressive and well planned movement of the “Chicanos” (mostly Mexicans and Mexican-Americans) to dominate the states that once were part of Mexico until 1848, after an imperialistic war displaced them. But they are displaced no more, having succeeded by birth rate and immigration where their more thinly spread ancestors were overcome. If successful (and it very well could be!), it would claim most of the American West, up into the Northwest as well. It would be both a new nation, and an ancient nation finally restored to La Raza, the brown race. Aztlan has taken several bold in-your-face stands against oppressive government here in the states, and oppression in Palestine, and stands solidly against the Iraq War. Moreover, they clearly and bravely recognize and expose the dark forces for who and what they are. As far as activist followers, they have them, but mostly in Los Angeles – for right now. This is surely a movement to watch, with both a strong Internet presence and feet on the ground -- eventually it could be tens of millions. There is an Aztlan governmental structure already in place. BACK TO THE FUTURE

While parts of the PNT model are not applicable in all places, others are quite useful and inspirational. Intense and sincere spiritually based patriotism combined with a workable program has attracted a growing number of followers. Sadly, nothing like this has happened in the USA in over seventy years. The day of the old patriot right wing, which was never very successful anyway, has come and gone. Are Argentineans more patriotic than Americans? Yes, I think so. Argentineans are, fundamentally, part of a homogenous population with origins in Europe. This is no longer true in the USA. A New Patriotism, based on new and creative ideas for a viable nation-state, will have to arise here, but it will never sweep the whole country. Just don’t expect that the essentially de-Europeanized USA to respond that way, except in certain marked regional exceptions. If the doomsayers are correct about an oncoming economic collapse (and they probably are), then the opportunity may be at hand for nationalist groups to once again rise to the challenge. They can be the catalyst that causes the world to shake off the chains of oppression that the dark forces have placed upon us. Devolution and Revolution are on the horizon, and a New Nationalism will come forth in the crucial phase. True and brave leaders will arise when the people are ready to sweep away the old corrupt order and usher in the New. Aztlan and other non-Euro-Americans, such as over 6,000,000 American Muslims and assorted other ethnic enclaves, are preparing for pivotal events in a rapidly devolving USA. I have no doubt that the PNT is ready in their homeland. Will Euro-American nationalists be ready when that decisive moment comes? I hope so.

CULTS OF EVIL EONS OLD

{Published as “Ritualistic Murder May Explain Missing Kids Across America”, American Free Press, 11/28/05.} Human sacrifice has occurred in every culture in the world, from primordial times to the present. It is an archetypal remnant from earliest human times. Since the gods were the creators, it was seen as necessary to mollify them so that rains would come and crops would grow. Ritual sacrifice took many forms, from the fruits of the harvest to the blood of animals. Blood has an unmistakable mystique about it, playing a key role in magical rituals. While the fruits of agriculture and the blood of animals were suitable, the highest form of sacrifice was human life. More often than not, the victims were children and young adults. The crimes and similar M.O. continue in a transgenerational pattern, from ancient times into the present day.

Ritual murder cults dominated entire cultures, such as the Incas, Mayas and Aztecs. One of the cruelest and most diabolical was the ancient Hebrew cult of Moloch. His temple was in the valley of Gehenna (Tophet), later a synonym for Hell. Built of metal in the shape of the demonic deity, within were ovens where children were cooked alive, while drums and trumpets played to muffle the screams. While the specific cult died out, the idea of ritual murder did not, continuing to lurk under the veneer of the Judaic religion. Child torture and sacrifice is no stranger there. Such a deep undercurrent easily flows from one generation to another by underground oral tradition (Kabala). Hundreds of cases are documented in old court records and books, and not all are in ancient times. Israel is a well-known center of the world sex trade, but not all the mischief happens there. A criminal ring was busted in Belgium in 2004, led by Mark Dutroux, a Jewish Mafia kingpin, believed to be in charge of Israeli organized crime’s child trafficking in Western Europe, who also made snuff/porno movies in Belgium. He was known to own at least seven country estates, where he made the movies and disposed of the bodies. Many types of cults are involved all over the world, from the Afro-Cuban Palo Mayombe sect to Satanists and other followers of the dark side. All follow a similar M.O., preying most often on children and young adults, and sexual perversions play a key role. At a deep, primal, atavistic level, sex and evil meet and mate. The offspring is a sick malevolent urge to merge sexual acts, blood, pain and death.

Obviously, very powerful forces are involved in purposefully overlooking and abetting this occult mayhem. Until the public demands a serious inquiry, it will continue – as it always has.

This article is dedicated to murder victims and other casualties of ritual cultic violence in all times and places, especially the little children. These innocents, both yesterday and today, largely remain unknown, disbelieved, disrespected, ignored and forgotten. And never believe, even for a moment, that ritual murder does not still happen today, deep in the dark demonic depths of the occult underground, because it does!

THE DECRIMINALIZATION OF DRUGS
A Good Idea That Will (Probably) Not Happen

The “war on drugs” is a fiasco and a failure. Even the name is a lie. It is not a war on drugs, but a war on the American people. This wearisome “war”, if it really is to stop drugs, is a catastrophe. With our porous borders, we can’t (or won’t) stop illegal immigration -- or drugs. Anyone who wants drugs, no matter where they may be, can find them. Think about it. We can’t even keep drugs out of maximum-security prisons, much less off the streets and out of our schools. What is more, it has filled our prisons with people who are not violent criminals. Notice that the term is decriminalized, not legalized. However, legalization is also an option, and drugs could be taxed and controlled in much the same was as alcohol and tobacco. Both of these already legal drugs are more harmful and addictive than several banned substances.

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF DRUGS WERE DECRIMINALIZED?

Let’s deal with the obvious question first. Would more people use drugs? In the beginning, they might, but the “war on drugs” doesn’t really deter anyone who wants them. The U.S.A. not only has a problem with drug consumption, but as are Afghanistan, Colombia, etc., we are a drug-producing country. The largest cash crop in the U.S.A. and Canada is Marijuana. And, we mustn’t overlook America’s other homemade delight, Methamphetamine, now cooked up and sold in a neighborhood not far from you and me. Drugs are, quite literally, everywhere, because that’s where the money is. And, we must face the fact that a lot of people like drugs, otherwise they wouldn’t use them! Anyone of any age can get drugs in spite of all the draconian and unjust laws. Minors should not use drugs, but they should not use alcohol and tobacco either, yet they do, despite what the law says. Naturally, strict laws against giving minors drugs should remain in place, but consenting adults do not need the ever enlarging “nanny state” to determine what they do. While lives are lost and ruined by drug use, the ineffective laws and harsh punishments ruin many more. And, if you are so naïve as to think that the “correctional” system really helps anyone, then you obviously have never had a relative or close friend caught up in that web of madness.

But, what else would happen? Major organized criminal syndicates, not to mention international terrorist organizations, would be largely de-funded. Gangs would lose membership. They are growing rapidly all over the country, and are a real threat to national security. The ill-advised “noble experiment” with alcohol prohibition back in the 1920s is responsible for the rise of organized crime in this nation, and the “drug wars” have kept it well endowed ever since. If drugs were decriminalized, the crime rate would drop off drastically, especially crimes of theft, burglary and robbery. Most of these crimes are committed to buy drugs. If drugs were legally available, there would be no need to commit crimes to buy them, and there would be no need for illegal drug dealers. Hence, the prison population would rapidly decrease. This would save billions of dollars. The police could concentrate on more important crimes, and the money saved could provide the very best treatment programs, free of charge, for anyone who wanted them.

WHY IT WILL (PROBABLY) NEVER HAPPEN

The banking system has a “substance abuse problem” – that is, the international banking and trade cartels are “addicted to drugs”, or more precisely, to the handling and processing (a.k.a. laundering) of drug cash. They are dependant on this perpetual cash infusion. Back in the old days, Fr. Flanagan of Boys’ Town said there was no such thing as a bad boy. Now, “money town” says there is no such thing as bad money. Dirty money can be “rehabilitated” and washed clean. Once funds are laundered, they are used just like other money, invested to make more money, e.g., shopping malls, resorts, hotels, new banks, real estate developments, entertainment, new miracle drugs, – you name it. When investors make money, it gets spread around the whole economy, so we must not forget the millions that are given to churches and other “not-for-profit” organizations every year by these “benevolent” donors.

Likewise, the prison industry is a huge business, more and more of them being built as you read this article. Some are essentially slave labor institutions, producing products and services that directly compete with private business. Did you know that? Certainly, law enforcement opposes any change, as most agencies are dependent on drug seizure money, which has become an essential and irreplaceable part of their budgets. There are other factors working against reform, but no need to belabor the point. The “powers that be” don’t want any changes, so there will likely be none.

What we are doing is a dismal failure. Isn’t it time to try something new? Yes, of course, but practically no one other than the Libertarian Party and Congressman Ron Paul will step forward, but they and other progressives have had little impact. The whole subject has been successfully demonized, but we can still hope that open minds can have an eventual effect.

We offer this issue with prayer to the innocent victims of oppression, especially those who had no part in the plans and aims of their leaders. May God bless the victims of all atrocities -- from Ruby Ridge and Chechnya and Mt. Carmel; all the way to Israel (Occupied Palestine), and sadly (but predictably) to New York and Washington. They may now rest in peace. THE DESTRUCTION OF THE “TEMPLES,” On symbolism, reality, and linear assumptions.

[Rome, The Eternal World City, c. 475 A.D.} Flavius Marcus Silva and wife, Drucilla were rudely awakened by their servants. It seems that a barbarian army has, once again, made its way to Rome, but this time, it was more serious. Over the years, the fierce Goths and Teutons had used horror and terror against the cultured, civilized, urbane Romans. While they had not (yet) succeeded, they had indeed progressed, though most Romans, absorbed by their grandeur and arrogance, really seemed not to notice, though their slaves had outnumbered them for years, and periodically revolted. The Romans could not understand this. After all, they had given the slaves so much. But while the barbarians had made their way inside, there was little resistance. The Circus Maximus was open early that morning for the gory games (professional sports and “reality” TV), and many were already making their way there after starting the wine-bibbing early, to be followed by several orgy parties. There was always a party in Rome, and to amuse the blase’ Romans, over a dozen gladiators and lions had just arrived from Africa. Drucilla looked out the window, and was horrified to see smoke from some of the great palaces and temples on the surrounding seven hills. Great billows of smoke poured forth, and black and red-bearded barbarians were looting and raping women in the streets. “Where are our Legions (military),” shouted Flavius? “They are the greatest in the world; they will save us. Where are the priests and the Pontifex Maximus? They should defend the temples of our Gods. Where are our Tribunes (cops and lawyers)? If they cannot do it, then call out the Praetorian Guard (FBI, special forces, etc.). But where are they? And where is the Emperor (currently with the Praetorian guard, hiding at a base in a swamp)? He will surely come out and reassure us?” To make a very long story short, before they knew what had happened, the old world had changed and a new one had arisen while Flavius and Drucilla continued their linear assumptions about the future, that all would go on as before. They did not prepare for the inexorable historical process es of quantum-change. Nothing but God lasts forever, and the law of give and take manifested itself in the end of an “eternal empire”. Moreover, Rome reaped what had been planted. How many lives, nations and cultures were overrun violently by the Romans? How many rival “temples” had they burned and looted? Did the old Romans ever think of how they really were, and how they really were seen by the ones they dominated and enslaved? Are we modern-day Romans any more aware? That Rome was collapsing was unknown or ignored by most Romans, who blithely pursued their bored, gluttonous lives. A few were awake, and even a few prescient ones saw it coming, but no one listened. Other than military force (Pentagon Temple) and money (Wall Street and WTC Temples), they seemed to have no other response. How tragic! Linear assumption fallacies bring down whole cultures and societies.

{New York, Financial and Multi-cultural Capital of the World, 9/11 2001} I begin to complete my delayed project on Osama (also Usama) bin Laden “coincidentally” at the time that the twin World Trade Center Towers, hallmark of American mercantilism in the heart of the Wall Street trade and money district, have largely been “taken out” by a pair of planes. A short time later, the symbol of America’s highly vaunted (but bloated)military might, the Pentagon (or “Pentacle” building), was also struck a severe blow. Great “temples” were destroyed. While certainly an evil act, the planning and the (albeit perverted) brilliance are undeniable as is the equally unparalleled use of symbols as well as force to make the point, beginning with “911". The deadly “missiles” themselves were symbolic: two from “United” and two from “American”. We could hardly miss the point. Tens of thousands have died and thousands of others have been maimed, but these scenes are not unfamiliar to most, and we have become a “culture” numb to violence and destruction. Many movies have portrayed countless disaster scenes (some very similar; remember the aliens hitting on July 4?) in special effects, and if you don’t like the pretend violence, you could see the real thing in the repeated senseless bombing of the Iraqi people and the air war of terrorism against the people of Serbia. Both war crimes were perpetrated on minor powers with no way to strike back. Both Sadaam and Milosevic were styled as “Hitlers”, but we knew that neither could inflict real harm in response to our selfish and immoral acts of ultra-violence. We all watched the Gulf War and air war against the Serbs with the bored, arrogant air of detachment so characteristic of many Americans. “Ho hum, that’s enough of that, let’s watch a cable movie. I’m bored with all that foreign stuff. Bomb the s___ out of them, who cares? It’s just a bunch of towel-heads!”

The status quo is ended. Why? How?. As happens to those who inflict pain, terror and horror on others, the dark angel of death has decided to pay us a “courtesy call” (it could have been worse, you know?). And the “war” didn’t just suddenly start on 9/11. It has been going on for years while we continued our unvarying and completely uncritical support of Israel (Occupied Palestine), therefore being a direct and knowing accomplice to the war crimes of that malevolent ministate. The attacks have gotten progressively more serious (and effective), but like a giant being attacked by fleas, it barely caused us to miss a single lock-step in our support of the world Zionist land and power-grabbers. While I’ve always thought it trite and banal, the ever-popular expression, “what goes around comes around” now takes on a deeper and bizarre new meaning. Furthermore, while I am sure that most Americans will be enraged and out for vengeance and blood, I am also certain that, as usual, they will largely misperceive their targets. Most will only hate Islamic people even more, further alienating us from most of the rest of the world (who support a free Palestine), and in return, their already fiery hate for us will grow to a white-hot fury. Americans desire vengeance in spite of any religious lip service paid to Christianity or any other religion, and this will surely be only more intense in the weeks to follow. Narrow, linear thinking is truly tragic.

THE OFFICIAL RESPONSE, OR,
“Oi Vey, Bubbaleh, Who Could Know?”
The U.S. intelligence budget (for all agencies) is immense, and much larger than what is reported. For years, we have had a “black budget”, supposedly overseen by Congress, but with such as Rep. Gary (“I shave my body”) Condit on that committee, who can say? Not only that, factor in the other NATO nations and the amount each of them spends on intelligence, and the figure must run close to a trillion or more! And nobody knew?! Give, me a break! Even the dumbed-down and apathetic “average American” can (probably) put two and two together here and see that the result can’t be explained merely in terms of ignorance (“we didn’t know”). IF this were true, then we should impeach (indict?) each member of the congressional intel committees AND go after the bureaucrats in charge of these agencies. Their incredible incompetence has taken the lives of thousands. Or is it incompetence? How can it be that out of all the highly-vaunted intel apparatus of the mighty West did not know about this? Can Osama bin Laden and company be that good? The are two possible scenarios, so let’s look closely at both.
Scenario A: They really did not know.
In spite of what is said above, it is within the realm of possibility. For one thing, excluding double agents and “moles”, there are only a few Americans and Europeans who can speak and read Arabic at all, much less have the fluency necessary to work undercover or pose as an Islamic person. Therefore, one of the basic tools of spy craft is not available. “Hu-mint” (human intelligence assets) are almost completely lacking. On the other side of this is the “enemy”, a loose (but sometimes very tight) coalition of international terrorists reaching from Northern Ireland to Indonesia to Columbia and into the United States with its notoriously porous borders. The language problem is not nearly as great, especially in a city like New York with people speaking a myriad of accented versions of English. The simple fact is this: “they” can quite easily infiltrate here while “we” can do little than look on from afar or depend on an unreliable network of informers, double agents and moles who use such a network as a vehicle for an essential and on-going program of planted dis-information. While we have the upper hand in high-tech stuff like satellite viewing, on the ground our agents don’t stand a chance. Why not, you may say, recruit Arab-Americans and other friendly Arabs to do this for us? No doubt, we have/are doing that, but this too has its limitations. For one thing, any traitor to his roots and religion would know that not only he will face a horrible death, but the betrayed ones will probably take out his entire family as well! So anyone doing this would not only have to be suicidal, but be totally uncaring about his family and friends. On top of all this, add in the fact that, much more often than not, the U.S. betrays its allies and friends. Based on our past performances, western governments and intel bureaus are not to be trusted. Hence, it is possible that they either did not know. Or, if they did get some hints, they (as often is the case) misinterpreted the data. Moreover, add in the arrogance and egotism of many “spy-guys”, and you can see how this could happen. Or not! Hence....

Scenario B: They knew and let it happen.
Osama bin Laden has always given some kind of warning of his attacks as was discovered after the near-sinking of the USS Cole. These warnings are probably part of an early activation system of his network and to alert like-minded groups and individuals to be ready, and to stay out of the way. Did highly secretive NSA and the (lesser known and even more secretive) National Reconnaissance Agency not have at least some warning? Under this scenario, and given that previous warnings were received, there must have been something. Of course, as they say, “hindsight is always 20-20 vision”, so it may be that they did, indeed, pick up a hint or two, but did not know what to do with it as such “warnings” are quite vague and cryptic. Some say this happened in the OKC bombing: that McVeigh was either a government agent or (more likely) that he did do (at least some of) the bombing, and the FBI was monitoring the matter, which got out of hand. This is how DEA, BATF and FBI (and all sorts of Fed) “stings” work. They “string you along”; they do not bust you on the first or the second or even third or fourth drug buys (or arms or whatever), but only when they have built a solid, airtight case, and (the main reason) until the target has revealed all the contacts and other information that he or she can. If this was the OKC scenario, one can see how foreknowledge of this behavior could be used against the Feds. In other words, while they are waiting for you to reveal just one more big contact or bring in a big delivery of whatever, you go ahead and pull something off on another front, or launch your operation when they do not expect it. These are not secrets. Read books and other accounts of cases, and this method is easily found.

But this begs the question of just exactly why “they” would do this. The old question of Cui bono? (to whose benefit?) seems an apt legal investigative principle to apply. Israel and its pro-Zionist “amen corner” in the U.S. will certainly benefit. After all, we now know how the Israelis feel after a disco or whatever is blown up. So we will sympathize, then, even more with their cause, which, in reality, is at the heart of this whole problem. But watch and see. This will surely (at least to a large degree anyway) have this result. A further benefit will occur for our One-World Planners. They have already succeeded in militarizing both the tactics and the minds and attitudes of our police forces at almost all levels. We saw this before OKC, but it took another quantum leap after that. Now, anytime a citizen is stopped you are seen as a “security risk”. And quite frankly, if you’re black or from the middle east or Mexico -- or maybe if you are a vocal patriot-nationalist – you are even more suspect, and could fall victim (as have a growing number) to “friendly fire”. The “Drug Wars” have certainly contributed to this as well, but we’ll look at that in later essay. So then, such a catastrophic event as OKC and now NYC and DC, will no doubt have many calling for more police and more military spending. And there is a third result that benefits those who are carrying out a fantastically successful gradual revolution to discredit our early founders and eventually displace and replace our constitution. Sadly, most of it has already eroded away, but the principles still stand. At least, until they are replaced in the interests of “national security” and the “safety of our citizens”. Hence, dissidents, those who speak out against such things will be subject to no First Amendment protections because there won’t be a First Amendment or a Fifth or any other. They might still be on paper, but “expediency” will have overridden them completely. If you don’t know of whom I speak, dear readers, please realize that it is, yes, those of us who speak out publicly. But that’s just the ones in the first wave of repression. The second part will be directed at those who read and circulate and speak out in your own communities. Can’t happen here? That’s what they said on Wall Street and at the Pentagon on 9/11 day!

ADDENDUM: “THE FLORIDA CONNECTION” ?
Revisionist Attorney and “Eagle” reader Anita E. Belle submits this interesting speculation as to impending World Court cases against the U.S. and C.I.A. for Genocide, and we already know that Ariel Sharon (“Butcher of Beirut”) has a case pending as well. Belle lists a number of other such potentially embarrassing and far-reaching legal actions which will be circumvented by the 9/11 events. In addition, she itemizes several case connections with Florida.

[drug trafficking] cases are consolidated, the state whose contested votes placed George W. Bush in the presidency, and the state in which George W. Bush was visiting when the “terrorist?” attack took place.” As of 12 September, we know Florida was also the site a flight training school used by some of the terrorists. But, back to our speculation: did “they” know? Well, if they didn’t really know anything at all, and if this is reflective of our intel assets, we are really in “it” up to our necks!

WHERE WERE OUR “FEARLESS LEADERS”?
This seems an appropriate point to reflect on what they did do. Bush II disappeared, touching ground in the Louisiana swamps long enough to record a short video address. This wasn’t a bad idea, though coming direct from Air Force One or some other “power center” would have seemed more appropriate. But when they began to run the tape, it took at least three attempts to get the video feed right! So we see Bush Baby start to say something, but we are left (at least three times) with a squiggly, distorted image that, if you thought enough about it, was thoroughly frightening! Then, no one else comes out of hiding to speak. I thought Rumsfeld was dead in the Pentagon until they finally trotted him out – to say practically nothing! Where is brave and stalwart Gen. Colin Powell, “hero of the Gulf (Bush Oil) War? Wouldn’t that have comforted and reassured some? Where was the head of the CIA to assure us they would track down the perpetrators and that, even now, they were hot on the trail? But we saw none of them, except for, finally, a brief clip of Ashcroft. Instead, we see James Baker, Lawrence Eagleburger, Warren Christopher and other assorted voices from the past. Since, our “leaders” are still assuming that they can proceed as they have before, a deadly linear assumption! As readers know, I detested and abhorred the Clinton regime, but one thing I do believe is that, despite “zipper problems”, he would have gotten on the air and addressed the American people. There, readers, I finally said it – something good about Bill Clinton!

THE REASONS FOR THE ATTACK: UNCRITICAL, BLIND AND STUBBORN SUPPORT OF ISRAEL (Occupied Palestine) IS THE SEEDBED OF PRESENT TROUBLES.

What is behind all of this? The United States of America is largely under the control of a pro-Zionist cabal, which some call a “Z.O.G.”, i.e., Zionist Occupation Government. When we look at our blind and stubbornly unyielding support of the Israeli ministate (Occupied Palestine) and its particularly heinous versions of state terrorism toward the Palestinians, is it any surprise that we are blamed as well? Is it any surprise that America, who are the enablers of Israel, are hated as well? The Israelis practice assassination, return deadly machine gun fire in the face of rocks and sticks, kill and burn old people and children in their homes, creating the same climate of fear and terror that we now know here at home after 9/11. Without our aiding and abetting policies and money, the Israeli pirate ministate would never be able to continue to practice this political terrorism in the face of world opposition. If it were not for the U.S., Israel would be forced to make a reasonable peace. If it were not for the U.S., many nations of the world would long ago have boycotted and embargoed the ministate if it had maintained the same arrogant inflexible stance. Sadly, then, it is little wonder that we are hated by many. Add to this our incredible public ignorance and apathy and arrogance, and we have a situation which was/is exploited to the fullest by this cabal of conspirators. And this is not all. For one reason or another (we shall speculate later), we also trained, equipped and financed this “terror network” ourselves a generation ago in Afghanistan. So we not only reap the wind from our misbegotten and ill-conceived foreign polices, we also reap the whirlwind that has arisen from seeds we ourselves planted years ago in Afghanistan.

What is happening? Why have these terrors come to our homeland? Who is responsible? What can we do? Look in the mirror! It’s us! It is we who have allowed a religio-political cult (Zionism) to gain control of our government. This is a One-World-Government cult that ruthlessly and relentlessly stifles or destroys almost every strong voice opposing them. The Zionist Cabal and its sympathizers own and/or control almost all media, the only real exception being the Internet, and that too may not be far off. Without going into a great amount of detail and background material, it is clear that this/ cabal is deeply entrenched not only in politics, but also controls the money as well. The 9/11 Strike can be seen as a two-pronged direct attack against Wall Street “capitalism” and all it symbolizes and at our “imperial legions” whose might makes the whole thing possible. With all of this in perspective, it is not so hard to see why a large portion of the world’s citizens celebrated 9/11 Day in the streets. While I can never defend such hideous ultra-violence, neither can I defend, support and ignore the hurt, pain, misery and death “our” government has perpetrated during and since World War II!

IN THIS “WAR”, CAN WE DEFEAT THE ENEMY? Defeat The enemy? We can barely find him or precisely identify him. Some of the myriad of talking heads (a.k.a. “counter-terrorism experts”) even said such stupid things as, “we must have more human intelligence (“Hu-mint”)” and “we must put more resources into infiltrating their cells.” Anyone who follows any of this closely sees that we not only have a mere handful of agents who can function in Arabic (or Farsi or Urdu), and none of them are candidates to infiltrate, being mostly scholarly types. Terrorist assets are profiled as young, from poorer families, faced with unemployment and little money, dedicated to Islam, and always referred after screening through an at-first informal network, progressively getting deeper scrutiny before acceptance. Even if ethnically one of their own, the would-be suicide warrior would have to face this same scrutiny. So this is virtually impossible, then, right? Well, yes, but.... We might pull off a successful infiltration if our agent is as at least as dedicated as those he would infiltrate, and more importantly, if our agent were willing to offer his life for the U.S., NATO, the Bush Oil Boys, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, the Federal Reserve, and the “American Way of Life”. And he would have to be dedicated to and revere his leader as do the ones he would infiltrate. He can have the beady-eyed visage of Bush II in his mind as his risks his life, facing torture and mutilation before death if caught. Hurry now, volunteers. They’re just waiting for one like you down at Langley.

And, yes, readers, Osama bin Laden DID warn us – over four years ago, directly and honestly in 1998 to ABC reporter John Miller. In it, he refers to the earlier bomb attempt at the World Trade Center. Please listen very closely.

“So we tell the Americans as people, and we tell the mothers of soldiers and American mothers in general that if they value their lives and the lives of their children, to find a nationalist government that will look after their interests and not the interests of the Jews. The continuation of tyranny will bring the fight to America as Ramzi Yousef and others did. ADOPT A FAIR AND JUST FOREIGN POLICY
Should we surrender to these forces and change our entire foreign policy out of fear and cowardice? No, I could never do that. Capitulation solely from fear can only engender more attacks, so any crucial policy changes must be carefully thought out and implemented. Just announcing a gradual end to aid to Israel would force the coven of thugs into negotiating in the give and take among real nations. In return for a gradual phase-out, they should officially give up any claims based on their sham-claim to be a “favored folk”. With new policies in place, the USA would not so much withdraw from the middle east, but for the first time, we would perhaps be able (along with Europe) to be an “honest broker” of peace and justice and freedom for all. Not only this, our entire aggressive arrogant assuming asinine policy-making system must be thoroughly rebuilt in order to take our rightful place among nations. A “superpower” is just another word for a big, stupid bully. This is what we have become – Americans must demand a “new age”, a “new reformation”, a devolution back 1776 (this ended in 1865) -- all these things and more, but surely we can all agree that there certainly must be some very radical changes implemented. Make no “bones” about it; it will be a hard road, but it leads to honesty and truth, so how hard, really, can it be? And, no, hear me very clearly -- this should not be done out of fear, but out of a sense of fairness and honesty that is supposed to characterize our once great nation and its policies. When they are subverted by cliques and conspiracies (special interest groups and PACs), there is no justice. To conclude then, as the Left so likes to say, “without justice there is no peace”.

THE GREAT EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI OF 2004
CATACLYSMIC CHANGES ON A COSMIC SCALE

CHANGES ON ALL LEVELS
This dynamic, truly cataclysmic and epic event will be remembered as long as human history is kept and retold for a number of reasons, some of which have not yet become evident. Many subtle changes occurred, and are occurring, in addition to the more apparent ones. The evidence and the results of these more delicate, yet long-lasting changes, will unfold as time (but altered!) marches on.

CHANGES IN EARTH POSITION
Some like to call God the Prime Mover, a most appropriate name for this cosmic event. The movement of the tectonic plates was truly earth shattering. The plates were permanently moved. This tremendously powerful shift not only caused the tsunami, but also led to several other important physical changes. The axis of the earth was moved, however slightly, as the tectonic plates shifted into a new position. The last great event of this magnitude was the ultra violent Krakatoa volcanic eruption and subsequent tsunami in an area not far from the current disaster. Judging by the force of that 1883 tsunami, with its reported walls of 120+ feet of water (the 2004 tsunami was 60+ feet), we can assume that the some of the same things, or even more extreme, occurred back then. The impacted population was incredibly smaller when compared with today. Islands disappeared. Who knew? There were no seismographs, no atomic clocks, only minimal electronic communications; it took the press weeks to reach the area and weeks after that before stories really hit the papers. Other than that parts of the world sky was darkened for weeks and weeks in some instances, few people noticed any difference. Not so today.

CHANGES IN TIME
This most unusual event also created a change, however slight, in the fabric of time. As a result, the atomic clocks, kept at key points around the globe, must be reset. Had you thought of the movement of time as irrevocable or uninterruptible? Think again. Do you think that God -- or the Prime Cause or Prime Mover or the First Principle, or however you choose to address the matter -- do you think that God cannot directly act in history, that is, in time? If so, then perhaps you might want to re-think your hypothesis!

GOD IS EXTRAORDINARILY AND POWERFULLY MANIFESTED IN THE CYCLES OF TIME. While not everyone will agree, this truly cataclysmic event, at least to this old scribbler, seems to prove this axiom. Moreover, we must not be deceived; this was just a mere hint, not even a full blink, on the cosmic scale of events. More can easily manifest itself; anytime, anywhere. Think about it.

CHANGES IN THE MAP
All geography books, maps, atlases, and globes are now forever inaccurate. The tsunami had more than the force of an atomic bomb at several locations. The earth was moved only slightly on its axis, but much more dramatically on the surface. Numerous small islands in the Bay of Bengal no longer exist. Certain towns and small cities on existing islands and coastal areas have been completely erased from the surface. Other islands, not to mention large swaths of coastal areas, have been, in many cases, drastically reshaped. As an example of the power and severity of this series of events, the entire island of Sumatra, sitting on the Burma Plate, was moved several feet. Do you feel safe and secure because you don’t live near the water? Equally calamitous events can happen anywhere, anytime. Think about it.

CHANGES IN ANIMALS AND HUMANS
While human bodies were everywhere, only a few dead animals were found, and most of these were household pets. Wild animals and other animals that spend most of their time out of doors apparently have an innate sense of warning. Domesticated animals that live closely with humans have largely lost this sense as have most humans themselves. Of course, there are exceptions, and soon we will hear reports of premonitions. And, the intuitional hunches and other forewarnings may be quite subtle. Over the past several weeks, somewhat curiously and spontaneously, I began three different articles with severe apocalyptic, end-times themes. Was this a “portent”? Who can really say? All I know is that I felt more than a little “eerie” when I began to realize what had happened. Here we enter into the realm of metaphysics and the paranormal. Humans, at least a few of them, seem to sense things. It seems thoroughly established that animals sense certain things ever more sensitively than do humans. Albert Pike, a nineteenth century mystic, hypothesized that the higher animals and humans were more alike than not, saying “In the real meaning of the single thought of dog, all metaphysics will be condensed.” I think he was right.

“… and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.” St. Luke 21:10-11.

CHANGES IN CULTURE, SOCIETY AND POLITICS
Even where human settlement was not entirely eradicated, the infrastructure is seriously and acutely damaged. As so many of the victims were children, an entire generation has been decimated. As government resources are strained to the maximum by the disaster, political opposition groups (e.g., separatists such as in Sri Lanka with the Tamil Tigers, Islamists all over the area, including those who want to create a pan-Islamic pacific republic from the Philippines to Southeast Asia, “rightists”, “leftists”, “Marxists”, et al, ad infinitum) and other, as yet unseen, movements will manifest themselves, for better or for worse. But one thing is certain. Significant geopolitical change is on the agenda. This effect includes institutions of all types. They will be challenged more than ever before, and some, maybe more than a few, will fail. Without a doubt, all systems will change, one way or another. Full economic recovery will not come for decades. Most of the cultural and societal changes, like the irrevocable shift of the tectonic plates, are permanent, and their full impact, for better or worse, will not be known for decades.

CHANGES IN THE AIR – EVIL ON THE RISE!
“A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled, because they were no more.” St. Matthew 2:18.
At least one third of the dead and missing are children. While the actual deaths are sad and unfortunate, what is happening to some of the survivors is even more appalling and devastating. As soon as the tsunami was over, it seems that child kidnappers were like wolves with the smell of lambs in the air. And they did what wolves always do. Curiously, the atrocities began around the same time as the Catholic observance of the Feast of the Holy Innocents, commemorating the slaughter of the young boy children by King Herod, hoping to kill the Christ Child. Evil is persistent.
Kidnapped children are usually bound for the sex trade. A large portion of national income is from the tourist trade. While a large part of this is perfectly legitimate, it is no secret that Thailand is a multi-million dollar world center for sex tourism. Hence, the wolves were already on the edge of the pasture. And they did what wolves always do. This should make the world clamor for a quick crackdown with hopes of recovering at least some of the victims, but this doesn’t seem to be happening. The Thai authorities surely know who the kingpins are. World intelligence agencies surely know who is behind the trafficking on the international scene. Why is nothing done? Evil is powerful and, let’s face it, attractive to more than a few people. Money is power. Evil has money, and this is their time. Wolves are about, in places you might least expect them. Beware.

CHANGES IN FINANCIAL MATTERS
Some of the points under this heading are obvious, so let’s focus on something about which nothing at all has been said. Not only will the reconstruction take decades and trillions of dollars, but also tens of billions of dollars will move through the relief efforts, beginning quickly after the disaster itself. In the never-ending process of electronically moving money about the globe, don’t you, our dear and well-informed readers, see that a window of opportunity has opened for the money-moving and the money-laundering crowd? A window of opportunity has just opened for all kinds of clandestine organizations that will take full and immediate advantage of this traffic jam on the international monetary internet.

CHANGE IS THE ONLY CONSTANT
The Chinese sages of yesteryear also said that the very worst curse one could lay upon another was, “May you live in interesting times.” Without a doubt, we have surely arrived there!

So then, good comrades: The only thing that is ever constant is change. Change is part of life. Life is change. Change is creation. We are creatures made in the image of the Creator God. Cosmic Creation-Changes are now in process. In the storms that always lie ahead, help us, Good Father, to find our places to stand and our roles to play. Amen.

THE EMERGENCE OF ARAB NATIONALISM
A Book Review By Yancy Ames

The Emergence Of The Palestinian National Movement, 1918-1929 by Yehoshua Porath is an abundantly documented treatise on a subject little understood in Christian-Zionist America. This fact makes if particularly informative, especially as it is written by a competent Jewish scholar. Palestinian nationalism basically began in the aftermath of the First World War, as a consequence of the Balfour Declaration and the establishment of the British Mandate over Palestine. Prior to the war, the Palestinians had basically been more or less content under Ottoman Turkish rule. The Palestinians based their opposition to the Balfour Declaration and the Mandate on the following points:

(1). The Palestinians, as the native, indigenous population, should be allowed to determine who does, or does not, enter their land.
(2). The Balfour Declaration, issued without the consent of the Palestinian people, was null and void.
(3). The McMahon-Hussein correspondence of October 1915, did in fact promise Palestine to the Arabs.
(4). The Arabs claimed Palestine based on centuries of farming the land; the Jewish claim was based on [alleged] ancient history, and had no applicability to the modern world.
(5). The Wilsonian principles of self-determination were inconsistent with giving an Arab land to a Jewish invader.

The Palestinian nationalist movement, like all such movements, took its impetus from the events of the time. After the conquest of Jerusalem in December 1917 by British General Edmund Allenby and the expulsion of the Ottoman Turks, the most relevant political fact was the entry into Damascus by Prince Feisal and the Hejaz Army of the Desert. Feisal’s proclamation as the short-lived King of Syria spurred hopes that Palestine would be united with Syria as an independent Arab state, albeit under French tutelage. That was the background behind the April 1920 riots in Palestine, immediately following Feisal’s coronation in March. The French expulsion of Feisal in July 1920 dashed all such Pan-Syrian hopes. However, the failure of the “Syrian option” exposed divisions within what was otherwise a united Christian-Arab front against Zionism. There had been tension between Christian and Arab Palestinians before the First World War. In the Balkan War of 1912 in which the Ottomans had been defeated, Christians within the empire had been perceived as being pro-European. Also, Christians had a generally higher economic status than Muslims and were generally over-represented on councils and legislatures. However, both Christian Arabs and Muslim Arabs were as one in opposing the creation of a Zionist state in their Palestinian homeland. The Christians also opposed the Zionists as the lineal descendants of the Killers of Christ. The Palestinian Catholics tended to be in favor of union with Syria because of the traditional French Catholic influence in the Levant. When the hope of Palestinian union with Syria was dashed because of Feisal’s defeat and the San Remo Conference of April 1920 which separated Syria from Palestine, Palestinian Catholics tended to be less nationalistic than the Muslims and other Arab Christians. The Greek Orthodox, in particular, became fervent Palestinian nationalists. This attitude became accentuated after the defection of Czarist Russia, the traditional protectors of the Greek Orthodox faith, from the First World War.

The Palestinian resistance to Zionism took several organizational forms. The first was the holding of the Palestinian Arab Congress. The Congress, organized about 1919 or 1920 elected its governing body, the Arab Executive, headed until his death in 1934 by Musa Kazim al-Husayni, the half brother of the Grand Mufti. Although other Arabs challenged the Arab Executive as the representative of the entire Palestinian people, it was the Arab Executive which sent three Arab Delegations to London in the years 1919-1923 to try to persuade the British to repudiate both the Mandate and the Balfour Declaration. These efforts proved fruitless when it became apparent that all British governments, regardless of regime change or political affiliation, were committed to the Declaration as a solemn international obligation. The more moderate Arab elements, who favored working with the British under the Mandate while still opposing Zionism and the Balfour Declaration were organized by Raghib al-Nashashhibi, the Mayor of Jerusalem and head of the Palestinian Arab Party. After numerous power struggles the moderates were gradually incorporated into the Arab Executive in the mid to late 1920s. Other major Palestinian nationalist structures were the Supreme Moslem Council, under the leadership of the Grand Mufti, Haj Amin al-Husayni and the extremely influential Moslem-Christian Association, which presented a united front of Palestinians against Zionism. The case of the Grand Mufti is particularly interesting. Haj Amin al-Husayni was appointed to his post by the British High Commissioner for Palestine, the Jew, Herbert Samuel. He was promoted over three better-qualified and more popular candidates as an equalizing measure between the Husayni and Nashashhibi families, as well as a means of taming Haj-Amin’s defiant nationalism. (It was hoped that making him dependent on the government would make him more amenable to the government.) After the Wailing Wall riots of 1929, Haj Amin al-Husayni came to the fore as the leader of Palestinian nationalism, his rise coinciding with the decline of the Arab Executive.

Aside from resisting the Balfour Declaration and the Mandate, much of early Palestinian nationalist activity centered on opposition to a “legislative committee” which the British were proposing. The “legislative committee”, to be composed jointly of Arabs and Jews with the administration controlling, would have limited say in day to day affairs without, of course, having any control over things “chose jugee” (already decided) such as Jewish immigration or the Balfour Declaration itself. The Arabs rejected the proposal, believing that accepting it would be equivalent to ratifying the Mandate and the Declaration. Later in the 1920s they leaned toward acceptance of the proposal, believing that it might help to balance the Jewish immigration, which was already becoming too great to overcome.

The Palestinian nationalist movement was ridden by many internal disputes and cliques. The Arab Executive was run mainly by wealthy Arabs from the urban districts and particularly Jerusalem. Jerusalem had not been particularly important under Ottoman rule; thus, the predominance of Jerusalem and its wealthy families provokes some resentment in the rural countryside. By the time of the Seventh Arab Congress, the competing factions have become more or less reconciled. The Christian Arabs also tend to be more accommodating toward the British as a kindred “Christian” people, as well as being over represented in the Mandatory Administration. This provokes Muslim disgruntlement, without breaching the united Muslim-Christian front against Zionism. The British are willing to cooperate with Arab demands to the limited extent of granting some say in the government through the legislative council. However, Arab participation in the council shall not extend to matters controlling immigration or land purchases by the Jews. Neither shall the British relinquish the Mandate as that would mean turning it over to the French and the Italians, who have interests rivaling the British in the Mediterranean. Thus, the Arabs are basically caught between a rock and a hard spot. They alternate between uncompromising resistance and a grudging willingness to compromise. Neither alternative really works because: (1) The Arabs do not have the force to dislodge the British or the Zionists and (2) compromise cannot address the fundamental problems. And so, by 1929, the stage is set for further violence – the Wailing Wall riots.

In 1911 the Ottoman Turks decided that the Jews had no right to bring benches and partitions to the “waling wall” at the Dome of the Rock Mosque in Jerusalem. However, the regulations were laxly enforced, and by the summer of 1928 Jews were violating the regulations. When the Grand Mufti objected on behalf of the Arabs, the High Commissioner took the position of the Arabs. The issue continued to be a sensitive one as the Mufti had alleged there was a Jewish plot to take over the mosque and restore the ancient Jewish temple. When the High Commissioner was back in London, riots erupted with many deaths and wounded. The Wailing Wall riots marked the end of attempted Arab compromise with the mandatory regime and the renewal of extremist Palestinian nationalism. They set the stage for the emergence of the Mufti, Haj Amin al-Husayni, as the leader of this renewed nationalism. When the Arab Executive finally expired in 1934, the Mufti would henceforth lead the Palestinian upheaval in the great civil war of 1936-1939. The Emergence Of The Palestinian Arab National Movement, 1918-1929 teaches many lessons. The two chief lessons are: (1) That it was the Balfour Declaration and the embryonic Jewish state which gave birth to nascent Palestinian nationalism and (2) the Palestinians are just as opposed to the Jewish usurpation of their land now as they were in 1918-1929. Unrest in Palestine is not a recent problem. It has deep historical antecedents. That is why any student of Middle East problems who wishes to progress beyond the newspaper headlines should read Yehoshua Porath’s excellent two volume study on the rise of Palestinian nationalism.

“WE SEE NO GOOD IN THIS SCHEME” A Review By Yancy Ames

THE VATICAN AND ZIONISM: CONFLICT IN THE HOLY LAND – 1895-1925 by Sergio Minerbi is a most informative study of Catholic opposition to Zionist plans to create a Jewish state in Palestine. The Vatican opposition was two-fold: to the creation of the Zionist state itself and concern for the holy sites of Christendom if they were to fall into the hands of infidel Jews. The latter problem was to have been decided by an international commission as stipulated at the San Remo Conference in 1920. However, the international committee never came into existence for a variety of reasons. Rivalry between the various Catholic countries of Europe, particularly Italy and France, problems of conflicting authority between the proposed commission and the British Mandate authorities, Protestant-Orthodox-Catholic disputes and a host of other problems made it impossible to agree on such a commission. Ultimately the problem of protecting the holy shrines of Christianity devolved upon the British High Commissioner for Palestine.

By far the most interesting section of the book deals with the Vatican’s profound opposition to Zionism as an ideology. The Church’s position on the incipient Zionist theft of the Holy Land was first stated by the Vatican Secretary of State, Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val in his interview with Theodore Herzl on January 22, 1904. “The Cardinal: I do not quite see how we can take any initiative in this matter. As long as the Jews deny the divinity of Christ, we certainly cannot make a declaration in their favor. Not that we have any ill will toward them. On the contrary, the church has always protected them. To us they are the indispensable witnesses to the phenomenon of God’s term on earth. But they deny the divine nature of Christ. How then can we, without abandoning our own highest principles, agree to their being given possession of the Holy Land again?”

The Vatican’s position remained essentially the same until Nahum Solo low’s audience with Pope Benedict XV on May 4, 1917. Although Sokolow spoke nebulously, (as was then the habit) of a Jewish “national home”, not a Jewish national state the Pope closed the interview with ambiguous words which the Zionists took as a stamp of approval of their political ambitions. “We shall be good neighbors.” It is probably that the Pope was thinking of the 1916 Sykes-Picot treaty which originally envisaged Palestine divided into several regions, the central one of which was to be internationalized and in which the Vatican would surely have some influence. According to one Zionist author: “The Pope’s assurances of good neighborliness to Sokolow must therefore be read not in the spiritual but in the geographical context.” In any event, it soon became apparent that virtually every Catholic prelate in Palestine or with any knowledge of the developing situation was vehemently anti-Zionist. Filipo Cardinal Giustini, who visited Palestine in October 1919, held views very similar to those of the Custos [custodian] Frederico Diotallevi who: “(is) clearly opposed to Zionism, and stresses that the Christians are of one mind with the Moslems in this deep hostility, and are even prepared to slaughter the Jews. In his opinion, Zionism is only a pretext for establishing Jewish rule at the gates of Europe, for the absolute benefit of the Jews, who are already all-powerful in the old continent (Europe) and the new (America).”

Like the Italian Cardinal Giustini, the French Cardinal Dubois also saw great evil in Zionism. “The Jewish Home the British wish to found is a dangerous step and is full of threats for the future.” Dubois warned of a civil war and the danger of Pan-Islamism. The French Catholic newspaper Le Croix was very prophetic on the danger facing the Arabs. Writes Minerbi: “According to this paper, non-Jewish natives of the Holy Land would be no more than strangers, more or less tolerated at first, but afterward oppressed, tortured, and robbed with each new wave of Jewish immigration.”

The Englishman Francis Cardinal Boume visited Palestine between December 1918 and March 1919. He echoed the views of his compatriots. In January 1919 he sent a revealing telegram to the British Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary (Lloyd George and Balfour). “The Zionists here claim that the Jews are to have the domination of the Holy Land under a British protectorate; in other words, they are going to force their rule on an unwilling people of whom they form on 10%. When I first visited it (the Holy Land) in 1919, the situation was distinctly menacing. There was a tendency on the part of certain immigrant Jews to claim and assert a domination in no way in harmony with the Balfour Declaration. This naturally aroused a fierce resistance on the part of the indigenous native population, both Moslem and Arab. … Men of every class come to see me with a loud an emphatic protest against Mr. Balfour’s promises and against the projects of the Zionists. … These projects went far beyond the mere establishment of a home for nationless Jews….”

A claim repeated over and over again in the Catholic commentaries of the time is the charge that Zionists and communists were one and the same. For instance, Cardinal Gaspari the Vatican Secretary of State in December 1918 told the Belgian representative to the Holy See: “There is talk of a Jewish state. I do not believe that the big Jewish bankers of England and the United States will be so unaware of the opinions of many of their faith as to supports this plan. Do we not see the Jews at the head of a revolutionary movement in Russia and in Poland?”

Nor were such opinions those of the Vatican alone. Such views were also very common in the foreign offices of all European countries. An English diplomat, for example wrote: “This is only the sorrowful beginning of our troubles in Palestine, once we are with the mandate, and I share the Pope’s anxiety regarding the most extreme intentions of the Zionists. He must be thinking of something more vague and frightening than merely earthly aspirations; he foresees a spiritual campaign against Christianity. Is the anti-Christ not a Jew according to Roman tradition? Judaism, under the cover of Bolshevism, has already destroyed the Orthodox Church; could Bolshevism not do the same thing to Rome?”

It is important to realize that all of these observers were writing in the same period as the appearance of the mysterious Protocols of the Elders of Zion which were receiving massive publicity in English newspapers of the time. In assessing the controversy Osservatore Romano, the r their identification; why have Jews escaped similar condemnation for theirs?
